Cliff
Burton joined Metallica in early 1983 after Ron McGoveny and
the band parted ways. Lars initially heard of the bass player
from a friend, and watched a performance of him with his former
band, Trauma in San Francisco. The band was sold: Cliff needed
to be in Metallica. The catch? They had to move from LA to
SF to have him, they did.
Influences
Bach, The Misfits, Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Judas Priest,
Black Sabbath, Velvet Underground, REM
Before
Metallica
Played in Trauma, EZ Street
Thanks
Special thanks to Greg Mainer
for his help for this section of the website. Without Greg,
even less of the world would be aware of many of the intricacies
of the man behind the bass. Enough gratitude cannot be expressed
as Greg has helped make Cliff much more human to those that
were not able to have met him.
About
This Area
Most of this Cliff area was originally presented in an area
of the 'red' incarnation of Metallica.com. That Cliff area
was identical to every other band member's area. However,
it was presented as an 'easter egg,' meaning that it was not
easily accessed from the main site. The Cliff area of Metallica.com
was compiled by 'JD' with help from Greg Mainer and Frank
Hall... we have yet to find a similar area on the new 'brown'
Metallica.com.
