02/05/2010 Entry: "BEHIND THE MUSIC REMASTERED"

VH1’s Emmy Award-nominated and critically acclaimed series “Behind The Music,” returns to continue some of these now iconic stories. Starting Saturday, February 6 at 10PM ET, VH1 Classic will air eight new half-hour weekly episodes of “Behind the Music Remastered” featuring some of classic rocks seminal artists including: Genesis, Mötley Crüe, Metallica, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, and John Lennon. Picking up where the original “Behind the Music” episodes left off, VH1 Classic will air brand new interviews, footage, and video clips that update the stories of several classic artists over the last 10 to 15 years.

Heavy metal pioneers, Metallica, will be the focus of this week’s show. Be sure to catch the premiere episode of Behind the Music Remastered this Saturday, February 6 at 10/9C only on VH1 Classic

While all of these artists have previously been featured on BTM, the Remastered series will pick up where those episodes left off with new interviews and footage from the past decade. Behind the Music Remastered will premiere on VH1 Classic on Saturday, February 6th.

Someone spammed up the U3 comments, so I've reenabled not allowing html... sucks, but we got like 200 spam comments on that one article.

Anyone know where I can find the original Metallica, behind the music?

Posted by Robert @ 02/06/2010 01:09 AM EST

I couldnt find it on any torrent sites, and i dont think you can buy it. I have it on my laptop ... but that doesn't help you at all now does it.

I wonder how they're going to do the Behind The Music: Remastered on John Lennon?

Kind of hard to update his story.

Posted by unknown @ 02/07/2010 01:08 AM EST

I just use youtube and watch the old behind the music in bits, if it is still on there

Posted by Yukoner @ 02/07/2010 11:38 PM EST

so that was bullshit huh? i stayed up to watch the "new" material on BtMusic even though i worked early in the morning. and for what? just a couple of clips that we have all seen this past year. dissapointing to say the least

Can't these guys release Shine for us already.......

Posted by MONSTER @ 02/17/2010 11:04 AM EST

I just saw the BTM thing. Only one snippet had I not seen before(Kirk interviewed with some kind of red background). Hell, if all they were doing was adding already recorded stuff, they could have at least made it an additional hour instead of half.

I hope these big four shows can on tv, dvd, streaming on the internet, or somthing for us people who dont live in europe. Those europians are so lucky with the bad ass rock shows they get over there.

Posted by Robert @ 02/19/2010 10:20 AM EST

Who's heard the new Burzum album? Pretty rad stuff, Varg clearly hasn't lost it yet

Posted by caspian @ 02/19/2010 10:56 PM EST

Heard Eye of the Beholder on XM53(boneyard) this morning. Most definitely the first time I've heard that on any kind of radio station. I got me a new truck(chevy avalanche) and it came with xm radion. Lovin the variety flipping between 41, 42, 48, 49, 53, and 54.

Is it me, or does it seem like this death magnetic tour is going on forever? I know they are taking all these breaks, but it sure has made it kind of dull as far as anything new or interesting happening. I guess I'll hope for a DVD of some of the big 4 gigs.

Posted by kurt @ 03/01/2010 09:16 AM EST

Yeah, the World Magnetic tour seems to drag on. It's kinda like the old days where they toured and toured EXCEPT now they tour and break, then tour and break. So it's half the shows in just as much time. I don't blame them for taking time for family.

I just hope now that they're breaking off the whole idea of playing the same songs from Death Magnetic. I wouldn't care if we ever heard End of the Line again.

The Big 4 shows.. I guess it's kinda cool. Would be cooler if they were over here in the States! Will we see some inter-band jamming? I hope so, but I doubt it. Would love to see James with Anthrax! Keep Mustaine away. lol

Posted by IS-JD @ 03/01/2010 11:00 AM EST

I could definitely see James getting up there with somebody the way he did with machine head. Anthrax would probably be the most likely choice with the obvious megadeth friction and the trash that slayer has talked over the years.

Now, if the egos could be massaged enough for one of the KEA songs to be played with Dave onstage, that would be cool. But if I were James/Lars, first thing I would require is an apology to Kirk. Mustaine has ripped him repeatedly as if he took his job from him, rather than replaced him for being fired.

I won't mind the long tour so much as long as they don't take a full year off at the end of it, then spend another two years making the next record. Why the year break when you are taking off so much time now(which I agree, they are doing the right thing by their families that way)?

I suppose at some point they must be planning a DVD release for the US. Most of us diehards have the mexico and france shows, but they still haven't mass released a show for the US stores.

Posted by kurt @ 03/01/2010 04:07 PM EST

Well, from a purely selfish standpoint, I wouldn't mind the long tour if they came back for another swing through North America. If they don't do any more NA shows on this tour (and that seems very possible at this point), then that will mean there's been exactly one show from them in my market in the last six years. And I live in the Baltimore/DC area, not exactly a small market. But, again, that's the selfish fan in me talking as much as anything.

I will say that I don't think I'll ever understand why it takes them two years to record an album.

Posted by Trace @ 03/02/2010 01:00 AM EST

I'd like to see Metallica spend less then two years on making the record. Note that all their best stuff (i.e the first four) where all smashed out far quicker then the rest of their stuff.

Ideally, you'd get Steve Albini in to produce, Metallica would rock up with some almost completed songs, and the whole thing would be recorded in a month. No overthinking. No rip-offs of old stuff. No half assed groovy tracks. Just massive, riff heavy songs recorded and smashed onto tape as quickly as possible.

Posted by caspian @ 03/03/2010 12:06 AM EST

Well, James had said the record was 90% done a full year before they finished it, and said it was primarily Lars tinkering. Some of the tinkering was probably good, but I think James, Kirk, Rob and management have to physically remove Lars once they feel the work is done.

Posted by kurt @ 03/03/2010 09:11 AM EST

Actually, I've been wanting to dig up the quotes about that year where they apparently just sat on Death Magentic for a year before deciding what to do with it.

Seems like an awful long time to just sit on this material. I don't recall the reasoning being Lars' tinkering... although, I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Posted by ISJD @ 03/03/2010 05:39 PM EST

I have a feeling it may have been some of the record company tinkering too, waiting for the correct release date, and all that hoo-haw to insure a prime selling debut date

Posted by Yukoner @ 03/03/2010 11:03 PM EST

I think I read it in a So What, and I am pretty positive it was James who said that. That's the good thing about the so what interviews, they go into much more detail than with the general press. The thing that surprises me is that not much of that info gets out there, but stays with the folks who get the mag.

Trace you sir are not dropping facts in your touring complaints. They played DC in 2006 & 2009. That would be 2 times. They don't ever skip over our market (DC) as it sells to the roof whenever they come.

Posted by Marcus @ 03/08/2010 06:36 AM EST

I caught a Rodrigo Y Gabriela gig Saturday night here in Detroit. Amazing show... it probably helps if you're a guitar nut, but there's a lot there that a rock/metal fan could enjoy a lot too. The way they play those acoustic guitars is amazing... great sound, great performance. ...and yes, they played Orion (well until the Cliff bass part).

I was disappointed by the opening act The Alex Skolnick Trio (of Testament). Came off as a little too pretentious.

Posted by JD @ 03/08/2010 12:17 PM EST

Marcus, I use to live in that market until 2007. Didn't they play there in 2004 with Godsmack not 2006.

Posted by Bigdpman @ 03/08/2010 02:05 PM EST

even if that was the case it still would be twice in 6 years but that's not the case. In fact now that I'm looking at my ticket stubs it looks like 3 times in a 7 year span which is pretty good for a band that big that hits the World. Summer Sanitarium at Fedex Field in 2003. Madly in Anger with the World in 2006, and now I remember looking at stubs I drove just a few hours into Va to catch them in 2004 on that Tour. If you love them that much I don't think a 2.5 to 3 hour drive is too far. Then in Jan the week of the Inauguration at Verizon Center. That's 3 to 4 times in a 7 year span. Not bad for a band that covers the world. Lot of complaints on the chain here but that one is a bit much in my opinion for a band of this level. I am pretty sure Metallica.com has a timeline for all of their tours though by the way, my ticket stubs could have the wrong dates on them...

They've only played here once in the past 12 years.. In short, stop bitching.

Posted by caspian @ 03/13/2010 01:25 AM EST

Anyone else amused that caspian says stop bitching? Then his very next message he's bitching?

Posted by Hmm @ 03/14/2010 04:19 PM EST

way to ignore the context of the stop bitching comment.
