12/14/2008 Entry: "FILMING & GUITAR HERO"
MetOnTour reports that Wayne Isham has filmed the last couple of Metallica shows on the West Coast. Wayne has a lengthy history of filming both live shows and music video for the band. No official announcment has been made if this may be for future live DVD release or music video (or both or neither).
...and finally Metallica.com has confirmed Guitar Hero: Metallica. Yes, we know, it's the worst kept secret in rock-n-roll but we're here now to finally confirm that there will indeed be an all-Metallica Guitar Hero game released in the first half (!?) of 2009. Guitar Hero Metallica allows you to play as us in either single instrument or band career game modes in your choice of some famous settings (Tushino Airfield anyone?) or new venues with in the round staging. Included are 28 Metallica songs along with a few from some of our buddies like as Alice in Chains, the Foo Fighters, Slayer, Machine Head and Queen. There is also an all new Expert+ difficulty setting featuring two bass drum kick pedals (!!!) along with all the gameplay modes from Guitar Hero World Tour. Over the next few months, we're going to be updating you with track listings, more features, of course how and when you can get the game, and some cool previews of the game right here on the site. As you've heard us say before, keep checking back for more details!
UPDATE: Nick in our comments are passed along this link from USA Today! Includes images from the game and interview bits!!

Machine Head and the Foo Fighters? Wtf? How about a few decent bands that inspired metallica; some Mercyful fate and Diamond Head? When are Metallica going to learn that Metallica + Old Band = fuckin cool Metallica + new Band= really shit
Having said that, I'm still buying this.

My only beef with this is the same as the aerosmith one: Only 45 total songs. Since it is the same with both bands, it is obviously not a metallica problem. But for the price of the game, I think that is too few songs. GHWT has 85 songs. I mean, at least do 60.
As far as the other bands on it, what shocked me was the mention of Slayer. Tom and Kerry have definitely slung some shit over the years, I'm surprised the guys would "turn the other cheek" and put them on it.
The only other bummer is that the band is only going to look like it's current appearance. I understand that since it's not chronological, and they probably really don't want Jason on it, but it would have been cool to see them ala puppets or justice touring.
I'll be getting it day one.

Yeah, fuck Slayer. I'd rather have some motorhead, priest, or maiden. Bands that actually influenced Metallica. I dig a lot of slayer tunes, don't get me wrong, but for all the jealousy fueled shit talking they direct at Metallica, they should not have any kind of apearance on Guitar Hero: Metallica. Some Godsmack and Korn would be cool since they have toured with the boys several times. And how about "Don't you think this outlaw has done gone out of hand" by waylon since James digs him so much. A satriani song would make sense as well since he had such a profound effect on Kirk's style. And I hate to say it but a couple of old GNR tunes would be cool since they did the big tour together years ago when GNR was still cool. As Jagger says, you can't always get what you want... I'll be buying it on it's release day as well.

..You don't want Slayer, but you want Godsmack and Korn? That's got to be the single most retarded statement I've heard on this board.

This statement basically summarizes how thousands of people look at Metallica. Its like, I hate everything they do, but I still buy and listen to their stuff. Absolute bizarrio world

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have slayer on it. I'm just surprised why they would do it. If I were them, I wouldn't give slayer a pot to piss in.

completely incorrect, manguy. I like all of Metallica's stuff. However, they consistently sound terrible when they play with shitty new metal bands. I wasn't referring to their newest releases or anything.
