12/08/2008 Entry: "MISC.ALLICA - CATCHING UP"

Metallica was nominated for 4 and half Grammy Awards last week. Death Magnetic for Best Rock Album and Best Recording Package, Suicide and Redemption for Best Rock Instrumental Performance and My Apocalypse goes up for Best Metal Performance. Rick Rubin nominated for Producer of the Year, which credits Death Magnetic for his releases this year (hence the "half").

'All Nightmare Long' now has a music video. Click here. And, no... we don't get it, either - but the Tunguska Event from 1908 is a real one - with or without the Zombies. And the song has been recently added to the touring setlist with an overwhelming 6 Death Magnetic songs being played live at recent shows.

James will appear on WRIF radio in Detroit at 7:15 PM Eastern today. No idea if this is pre-recorded interview or live, they do stream live. Lars said the World Magnetic tour will last until about 2010.

Sorry, took so long folks... sometimes a guy has to work (and then recover)...

so the video kicks some ass huh? pretty creepy, it looks vintage and aged so i don't think that this was fabricated recently for this use. there is some obvious cg shit going on in there but i bet this is some old soviet sci-fi shtick held together with common facts and ideas that could tie it in with real events. but brilliant none the less. i hope that the full length feature this is edited from becomes available at some point. there is even a chance that it is attainable through russian retail. i wonder if there is a title to the film

The vid rocks. I'm loving the idea that i'm pretty sure Kirk came up with. Good times. Now if we could only download it like we could for The Day That Never Comes.

Posted by Metallidave @ 12/08/2008 05:50 PM EST

That video had Kirk written all over it. I thought it was cool. I hope they are still playing 6 DM songs when I get to see them.

Posted by ole @ 12/08/2008 06:52 PM EST

First off, I'm surprised they even did another video off DM. And then the video they end up doing...wow. Well, it's certainly different. I'll give it that.

More importantly to me, they sounded great playing ANL in the Met on Tour clip posted.

Looked like one hell of a fire JD! Fires in the winter are the worst, can understand your need for "recovery".

I don't hate the video, I just wish they had some band footage spliced throughout. It had as some have suggested a Rob Zombie almost Tool feel to it. All I know is I thought the vid of them performing on MetonTour was pretty frickin sweet.

that's metallica's best damn video..WOW..tripped right out on that one....I love that shit...it's perfect

Posted by Tony @ 12/08/2008 10:49 PM EST

Damn JD, glad you're okay... Take a break, and get some pussy man!

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 12/08/2008 11:26 PM EST

One of my favorite things about the video is that they don't have the band in it. It would have been out of place.

Glad to see you're okay, JD. That fired looked pretty damn scary.

Posted by Trace @ 12/08/2008 11:58 PM EST

I don't understand the video, but it definately falls into suit as Metallica has always put out awesome videos!! I love All Nightmare Long's video, it's so strange and frightening!

Posted by Yukoner @ 12/09/2008 10:26 AM EST

i dunno, a video with no clips of the band playing, to me, is kinda bland. Like tool or offspring. This video could be the video to 1000 different metal songs. No Metallica stamp on it at all. Boring to me.

The song live is pretty cool. Sounded complete and like all DM songs, a great live track. Maybe we'll get TJK by the time the tour ends, or maybe the 2nd leg of the North American Tour.

Posted by The General @ 12/09/2008 10:47 AM EST

Glad you're okay, JD. I wouldn't want to mess with that stuff. My cousin's husband has had to go out to various states and fight fires. Have you seen the Montana Fire image that's pretty well known with the deer? If not, I can post a link later on. It's pretty amazing.

Anyway, back to MetallicA and some more fire, limited edition of the Jump in the Fire action figure: http://store.metallica.com/store/store.asp?nProductId=600452

That video fucking kills! Best video since One or Unforgiven!

Posted by Tipper @ 12/09/2008 07:04 PM EST

General I would love to hear Judas. They stated that they have rehearsed 8 off of Death and on 1 of the Metontour vids Kirk started jamming of My Apocolypse. They also jammed on The Shortest Straw after the encore break in one of the vids. My point behind this rant. Stop with the cockteasing and play those songs that you jam on. For the love of all that is good and holy how about Frayed ends of Sanity. All right I'm all better

Does anyone know anything about Metallica playing Knebworth in July 2009 its on Wikipedia !

Nice video, but their Russian spelling of Tungushka meteor could've been better.

P.S. Am I The only one who think that "Tungushka" worm looks similar to a creature from "Hero Of the Day" Video.

Posted by $trangeR @ 12/10/2008 08:02 AM EST

Yeah, I also thought the worm in Nightmare looked somewhat like the Hero creature. I wasn't too crazy about the Hero vid.

Second time ANL played live, caught live from a fan... cool shit. That second solo is probably my fav on the whole album

glad u ok JD....great video!

Posted by xino @ 12/10/2008 05:46 PM EST

Man, ANL is such a sweet freaking song, that live version was huge. really hope they play that when (if) they come to Perth.

I love metallica, but Curtis I think that youtube post is the perhaps the gayest thing I have ever watched. I got a good laugh out of it at least.

Posted by ole @ 12/13/2008 10:38 AM EST

Went to the show in Ontario, CA last night. It was GREAT. I think they sound so good now, alot better then they did back in the St. Anger tour, especially James. His voice sounds fucking great live again. If some of you dont have tickets to a show in your area, I recomend you get them before they sell out. No lie, it is the best they have sounded in years. Good loud crowd too, that always makes a concert so much better.

Posted by Robert @ 12/13/2008 11:10 PM EST

I got confused at first Ontario CA.. California or Ontario Canada. Could just be the Canadian beer I am drinking. I saw Metallica for the first time ever on the St. Anger tour, and while I was completely blown away by the show and how much fun I had, I want even more to see them on this tour... this is such a strong album every song on it would be great live. We seen All Nightmare Long.. now I want to see Judas Kiss or My Apocolypse!

Posted by Yukoner @ 12/13/2008 11:21 PM EST

Sweet, they closed with Blitzkrie @ Pengrowth! A far better closer then Seek & Destroy, no doubt.

Posted by caspian @ 12/14/2008 12:39 AM EST

They closed out both nights in Calgary with Seek and Destroy. Blitzkrieg was the first song of the encore on the second night.

Wayne Isham was filming stuff at last night's show, and he's back filming again tonight in Fresno.

Could be for a live DVD, could be for a performance sequence for a video, could be...well I don't know. I guess we'll see.

Posted by Trace @ 12/14/2008 01:29 AM EST

From the Metontour vid on the 12th, it looked like James was using a new guitar on Bells. Hard to tell with the lighting, but it seemed to have a silver or stainless steel look to it. Who knows, could've been black with the lighting. Also looked like Kirk had a new one that was kind of an Red-Orange with white. Kind of looked like a snakeskin type thing.

It would be nice to a live DVD.
