08/26/2008 Entry: "APOCALYPTIC DOWNLOAD"
'My Apocalypse' is now available as a streaming file on Metallica.com, even better Mission: Metallica.com has the song available as an mp3 download (also available on iTunes). They promise a new "full taste" every Monday until September 12th... so looks like we might have five full tunes (depending on if Cyanide is released as a studio single) to listen to prior to Death Magnetic's release.
Mission: Metallica.com has also posted an improved mp3 of 'The Day That Never Comes' as there were many complaints regarding the quality of the original file.
Lyrics?
MY APOCAPLYSE Claustrophobic, Crawl out of this skin Hot explosive, Reach and pull that pin Fear thy name, Extermination Desecrating hail of fire
So we cross that line Into the crypt, Total eclipse Suffer unto my apocalypse
Deadly vision, Prophecy reveal Death magnetic, Pulling closer still Fear thy name, Annihilation Desolating hail of fire
So we cross that line Into the crypt, Total eclipse Suffer unto my apocalypse My Apocalypse
Go
Crushing metal, Ripping skin Tossing body, Mannequins Spilling blood, Bleeding gas Mangled flesh, Snapping spines Dripping bloody valentine Shattered face, Spitting glass
Split apart Split apart Split apart Split
Spit it out
What makes me drift a little bit closer Dead man takes the steering wheel What makes me know what time to crossover What to repeat until I feel
See through the skin, The bones, They all rattle Future and past, They disagree Flesh falls away, The bones they all shatter Pass time to see the end in me
See the end in me
Claustrophobic, Climb out of this skin Hot explosive, Reach and pull that pin
Violate, Annihilate Lose into my eyes Obliterate, Exterminate If not accept, Deny
Fear thy name as hell awakens Destiny in hail of fire
So we cross that line Into the crypt, Total eclipse Suffer unto my apocalypse
Tyrants awaken my apocalypse Demon awaken my apocalypse Heaven awaken my apocalypse Suffer forever my apocalypse

The other two songs will be available on iTunes as well. I guess releasing these tracks is not only a way to up the hype for DM, but also a tactic to fight against leaks. Speaking of which, anyone think DM's release may be pushed a few days to the 9th?

A great song. I just hate the internet feed quality. I love hearing The Day on the radio in my car but think it sounds just ok online. I cant wait for the CD to drop.

To repeat my thoughts from the last thread:
This song owns hard, and it's exactly what I was hoping for from this album. I remember hearing that this album is "9 epics and 1 song", and I'm assuming this is the song. It's sweet, here's hoping that the epics also have some brutal and fast moments. The heaviest thing they've done since Dyers' Eve.

The Day also sounds better in my car. I think it's just compressed from the internet and I even have a Boston speaker system set up to my computer. Either way, it's awesome! Based on the 3 songs I've heard so far, I have a feeling this album is going to be an instant classic!

I can't believe how many people are bitching about this song in the last thread... I really] like the lyrics in the song. The solo shreds.

WOW !!! I'll reserve judgement on the entire album being an instant clasic 'til I get my hands on it, BUT My Apocalypse is an instant classic!! just one (small)thing, does anyone else think that Lars' drumming is struggling to keep up with James.
Also should the album be packed with quality like this it's gonna be interesting to see which current staple live songs will be dropped (unless they play 3 hour shows :P )

I just don't hear anything in the clips in the now 3 songs we heard.
I liked My Apocalypse before the song finished. Cynaide I liked after a listen or 2. The Day is good, just will be one of the songs to listen to a few more times though.
Being 38, and still into Metal I want to hear the heavy stuff I was into when I was a teen. I have bought Metallica Albums (not S&M)since 86.
I had only heard Metallica on a local college radio station pre 86 as they were played amongst punk and hardcore songs for a few hours a night. My Point is I been following them since early days. I also think that My Apocalypse works well into the old stuff.
Before anyone says that it don't (As They Would ON Blabbermouth) the lack your hearing is simply James voice has aged. He don't sound like a kid no more. The production is different then the old days. How many times has Ozzy stated that he would love to do another full Sabbath album but it won't like capture the feeling and sound that the 70's did. They can try and duplicate it, but the sound was the times. Unless they can walk into the same studio, same equipment and same engineer's it is not likely the sound of that time can be fully duplicated. Ever create something you couldn't make just as perfect a second time. You can come close, but when you create something that is your best, good luck on making a 100% duplicate.
So Again, this is why when they play Creeping Death or other classic Metallica live now it don't sound even as good as live as it did in the 80's.
This is why the new album will be heavy, and classic on it's own. The Loads will be like St Anger, it was trial and error? I liked all Metallica albums/songs because it is them. What has caused the constant haters is the fact they said things in the early going that everyone hung onto and have now felt cheated.
A 19 year old James saying "kill all the poser's" while on stage chanting "Metal Up Your Ass" and saying we hate all the fake people. This gave everyone the impression that these guys will be the all the time Metal band that will kill all the fake people lol with their music and followers.
Do you people who are into your 30's now run around the streets with your buddies heading to the park to drink and looking to kick ass etc? You did when you were a teen. Why not now? maturing comes to mind.
So Metallica starts thinking we can do video's (people call that a sell out) they then write more then 1 ballad on an album (people called that selling out) they cut their hair (Sold out....) make up was questionable lol dunno wtf there.
K stop ranting now.. lol..
Fact is, MOP was 86/87 AJFA 88/89 BA 90/91 load era and then Anger. They moved on and on, and now they bring the maturity into the old school style and you get Death Magnetic. Only way to make MOP or Ride pt would have to be titles with a 2 beside all the classic we know and love, other wise it will be what you hear today.

lol at general..the lyrics are crazy on this album! james is starting to scare me. here we all think james is this catholic, happy, sober guy asking us how we feel to be alive ..then he writes lyrics about suicide, murder, death, abuse, that would make kerry king have nightmares. lol whats going on here. craziness. kinda like in a movie when the good guy turns out to be the physcopath.

Is it possible for someone to hate on this song?? Cite this song as reference to that Kirk quote about they could still make an album like this, they just chose not to. Jesus.
Posted by Ern @ 08/26/2008 06:11 PM EST

|
|
I thought about that Kirk quote too, however I'm not so sure that they chose not to... theres 1 factor that few ppl are picking up on, Robs influence in the writing of this album. Maybe I'm way off but it seems his energy has rubbed off on the others and made them rediscover their roots.

Posted by Mark @ 08/26/2008 07:48 PM EST

|

Yeah, the snare is too loud for my taste. And I'm still getting used to James' non-harmonized voice on this one. This may be my third fav of the three new ones, but I've only listened to My Apocolypse like 5 times now. There's just something about the whole overall sound that makes it feel St. Angerish to me (maybe the loud snare). I dunno. TDTNC is still my fav, and I grew up on the old school stuff.

Hey... I happen to like Foo Fighters and Trivium, and there's nothing wrong with that... but I also like Slayer, love Testament and much prefer the thrashier Metallica than the 90's Load/Reload shit. (St Anger doesn't even rate a mention). My Apocalypse reminds me of RTL/MOP and particularly, Justice. It's good shit. And it's not before time that Metallica (who were the kings of thrash metal when I started listening to them over 20 years ago) started playing thrash again. Just goes to show that us old blokes can still go hard!!!

right my point isnt to put down other bands..we all listen to rock ..but listen to battery then listen to my apocalypse..its the 2008 version. it sounds like a left over master of puppets demo..which is cool. look at the diversity we already have on this album? the only other thrash band capable of a ballad is testament.

To continue about my point from the last thread... yes, I think My Apocalypse has a "Happy" sound to it. It's in the main riff. Of course if someone reads the lyrics, they wouldn't think of the themes as being happy. (Kind of obvious, don't you think?)
But, and this is not putting down the new song, it's not what I'm looking for. I liked Cyanide. I loved Day That Never Comes. My Apocalypse, though fast and thrashy, just not that good to my ears. Then again, it's my opinion, and what should I care if you disagree?

You know, after listening to both new tracks, and don't get me wrong - I'm not bagging them cause I reckon they're awesome - but the one thing that seems to let them both down is the way Jaymz sings the last word of the song. The last "This I swear" in TDTNC is weak and so is the last "My Apocalypse" in, naturally enough, My Apocalypse. It's kind of like blowing your load and then falling asleep straight away instead of barring up for round two...

Don't want to speak heresy here, but the song is a bit Slayer-ish to me. Not a bad thing, but it's interesting if that's the Rick Rubin influence.

the song is ok i guess.....it would be better if the bass was turned down a notch, the guitar had a lil more treble, lars' kickdrum was muffled a touch, the snare was a few octives lower, james' voice wasnt as raw, kirk's solo was played with a major scale instead of a minor, kirk's guitar had a touch more wah pedal, not enough cowbell, instead of my apocalypse the song was Battery remastered.....other than that it's a decent tune...oh & I think Lars' is behind on the drums too because he obviously doesnt know how to play the drums right...thats about it though.

Although I will admit, I did see some crap about "trying too hard" or some other bulls%#t. It is funny how some mullet wearing a-hole will cry for the boys to go back to "thrash" and when they do they still aren't happy. Haven't seen anyone rating the new songs so far. Here is mine at this point (subject to change as I hear different things in each song with each listen) 1. Cyanide 2. TDTNC 3. My Apocolypse What say you all??

Agree with your last sentiments Nick. Even contributors to this site are starting to sound like Blabbermouth losers - "Trivium Suck", "Fuck Kerry King" etc etc. What's with all the haters? It's all metal, and it's all good. (Except maybe for Dragonforce). It would be more appropriate to see people saying "Coldplay Suck" and "Fuck Snoop Dogg", but then again, who would waste their time stating the obvious...

Metallica has never cared what anyone thinks of them, so why would they start to now. Who really gives a rat's ass what blabbermouth, or Kerry King, or Chino Moreno say about the Met Boys. I strongly feel that most of us whom frequent this site are, have been, and will always be loyal to Metallica, through the good times and the bad. To be honest, I don't understand why people come here just to talk shit all the time. This board is obviously open for all kinds of discussion, but I get disheartened to see topics brought up that aren't even remotely Metallica related. Dudes, this is Intersandman, not soap box for emo, rap, and pop haters. Shit I love old country like Waylon, Willie, and Cash, and so do James and Kirk by the way. (The real fans already know this.) Anyways, I apologize for the rant, I just think it would be way cooler to discuss all of the new songs and cool things going in the the universe of Metallica, the greatest rock band of our time.

"It's all metal, and it's all good."
Hahaha, no. I would invite you to have a look at some Myspace-based Bedroom black metal bands. No, metal is certainly no indication of quality.
Also, the production isn't terribly great. The acoustics are really screwed- there's no reverb, it sounds like all of it was recorded in a iso booth. The guitar tones are pretty cool, but the vocals are mixed too high. Finally, why shouldn't we nit pick? This is one of the most hyped releases, since, well, the last metallica album. It's stupid to assume that this wouldn't be analysed into oblivion.
Also: Apocalypse is a really, really good song!!? Easily the best of the 3.

well I happen to like Coldplay and Snoop Dogg, so I guess I have not taste right?
Far from it! True music lovers can find things they like in many different artists or genres. One of my favorite bands is King Crimson. Another is Tom Waits. It's just that when I want my metal, Ride the Lightning is the album I go to. It's okay to like bands that aren't metal. Who can deny that The Police are a crazy-talented band?

I guess you could argue that I'm losing my Man Card by going to see Coldplay later this year, but they just put out one of the best pop albums of the last few years, and Metallica isn't touring even close to me this year.
You could also make the argument that I receive +5 Man Points because I'm going to the Coldplay concert with my girl to get some pussy.

hahahaha I agree with Caspain, the guitar riffs in that song are insane! When I woke up Tuesday morning & 1st heard Apocalypse it was like somebody kicked me in the dick with steel toe doc martins (I dont know if the kids have those today but the older folks know what I'm talkin about right now) but it hurt so fucking good, just smiles all day. Did anybody else feel my pain...
PS: I know I am not a producer but everybody knows that the formula for a successful record is cowbell...Death Magnetic + More Cowbell = Platinum!
And by the way, with the exception of the 3 people that know who Will Farrell is on here and knew I was 100% joking, Ive given this band a ton of my money over the last two decades by concert, metclub, cd, tape, box-set and whatever else Lars does to make a living. While I sweat DM so far, if I or any of the other fans do have a small beef with something it doesnt mean I am not a fan. We're all gonna buy the album, go to our local concert (and probably another concert stop on the tour not too far away), it will sell millions worldwide, the tour will make millions worldwide, I think Lars will be able to feed his family still(and all of ours for that matter), they will still be the biggest band of our lifetime & the world will keep turning. The contract is up & this could be the last horrah fellas, I hope not but if it is I have enjoyed coming to this site over the last decade. "I'm gonna sit right back and enjoy this ride" 2 MORE WEEKS FUCKERS!

While we are getting to know each other a bit more through musical tastes; here is a sampling of some artists I like (other then metal).
The Clash Floyd Big Country (scottish rock band) Uk Subs Neil Young U2 Peter Tosh John Coltrane Bach Buddy Guy Public Enemy Dead kennedys Beatles Chris Isaak (really cool guitar sound, for something different) Cream CCR Mark Knopfler Duran Duran (when I am in a weird mood or I am forced to dance) Elvis Costello Enya (when I REALLY want to chill) Waylon Jennings James Brown Hendrix Nick Cave KMFDM Paganini Pearl Jam Police REM The Replacements Tea Party Tom Petty
There are TONS more, but I am just giving a sampling of bands that represent a myriad of styles (other then metal and hard rock)

I remember putting load in my Cd player the day it came out and thinking, wow what a loud mix. I do have to agree it sounds like the mix is recorded with the master volume on 5 then all the instruments up to ten, instead of it sounding warm and fluffy it sounds too distorted !

"The guy in this article is a d-bag. Ok call me stupid, but.... THE SOUND QUALITY IS NOT BAD. Ok maybe it could be better, but it's not that bad to make such a big deal about this. Seriously I have had it with picky people that bitch about everything and put this band under a microscope. It's just F***ing music!!! It's Metal! Let it be!! UGH "
tell me about it dude, what a fucking joke this whole thing has become..and whats so ironic about it is most metal music, sound wise is fucking horrible..HORRIBLE! and people have the audacity to nitpick over the sound of THIS? seriously, its one big fucking joke

Ticketmaster now has six shows up. It looks like we can expect Metclub tickets to go on sale on Saturday, for at least these and maybe more. The MM members then get their chance starting Monday, with tix going on sale to the general public in two weeks. Prices are ranging from $55-$75 (Omaha and Moline) to $62.50-$82.50 (Newark). We'll probably get more info on this later today.

and you're all douchebags for arguing about it. Fuck Tony and his opinion, we talk about our expanded musical horizons on here all the time and now everyone is up in arms because of the whining about mp3 quality. I haven't heard a bigger collection of pussies since watching the SKOM DVD...
We still talk mostly about Metallica on here and hence, the larger attached concept: music. Holy hell, I know, right? Like, Metallica isn't the only band out there? Really? My Gosh. People have been giving their lists of their favorite this or that since I started coming here in 2002. No reason for it to change. maybe we are all John Cusack from High Fidelity at heart, and Tony just want's to be Jack Black. Whatever. Give your lists, keep the discussions going. Ignore the verbal faggotries of Tony. Nothing will ever replace the predominant Metallica discussions on this board nor should it, and it's ridiculous to even think about. But people are allowed to stray from the topic somewhat if they so desire. Musical tastes is not very far fetched. So fuckin relax and let people talk.
Again... it's that all too rare time of new Metallica... and it's quite possible better than it's been in a looooonng time. No sense in getting PMS-y and punching eachother's cooches, is there?

well said blaster. manguy, i thought your list was really good. It inspired to make one.
Metallica ACDC Pantera Slayer(I just ignore what KK says about Metallica) Tool Judas Priest Johnny Cash Waylon Jennings weezer Korn Pink Floyd U2 The Rolling Stones Jewel (I blame my ex for that) Janis Joplin Hendrix The Doors White Zombie (and Rob's solo stuff) Marilyn Manson NWA Eminem Jay-Z Dr. Dre Outkast (when my white ass tries to dance) Rage Against the Machine Type O Negative Megadeth Anthrax Ozzy Black Label Society Sabbath Led Zepplin
Whew...I'm sure I missed some. Anyways it's my list for you all to judge. I am not ashamed of it. Music, no matter what genre, all comes out of some form of inspiration. I don't like every genre, but I don't care if someone else does. If that music inspires them some how, that's great. Hey, my grandparents love polka, and I don't care for it all, but I don't think that they are dumb, or that they are lesser peolpe for liking it. It works them. Just like the list before you works for me.
Death Magnetic--2 weeks away. Fucking agonizing wait. Cant't wait for more new stuff.

Who put Tony on reverb??
although I did laugh at 'Elvis Costello'
I think it's a given that we all think Metallica is the best band in the world, who else really comes here other than people who think that? I do agree that I'm not much worried about much else in the musical landscape currently except Death Magnetic. Nothing else exists as long as this juggernaut is materializing. But I don't put down those who may want to talk about Elvis Costello a little.

if i were president of the internet, i would outlaw long lists and cast away whiny bitches. i'd probably put tony in charge of making sure it stays that way... so that i can enjoy metallica and tool without any interruptions of WAAAAAHHHHH MY LIST IS BETTAR LOLOMG
and by the way, an official release of an mp3 with shit-like quality, no matter WHO released it (including metallica, even if Het did the conversion himself) is something that they need to hear about and it is something to be embarrassed about and a legit reason to bitch. this doesn't mean that i don't like the band. it just means that they need to be more careful and professional. otherwise it means that you're all sheep and willing to listen to whatever they put out.

From metallica.com:
More Death on the Radio 8/28/2008 [ back ]
You may have heard a little something about a radio show being broadcast live from our very own HQ . . . well, we figured it would be a lot more fun if we invited some 'Tallica fans to come hang with us and low and behold, one thing led to another and Foo Fighters Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins actually said "yes!" So on Thursday, September 4, we're going to hang out, play tracks from "Death Magnetic" and chat with Dave and Taylor. The festivities begin at 6:00 PM PDT . . . check with your local radio station to see if they will be carrying the live broadcast and we'll post a list of participating stations next week.
You can also listen here streaming on metallica.com and missionmetallica.com.

Too many sleepless nights waiting for the best album in a hell of longtime! Bashing Kerry King of SHIT puts my mind at ease and I find it amusing. How many times can we hear the same GAYER album over and over again...same riffs, same song and dance. Fuckin' hack. Kerry the QUEEN of metal should get a real job where SHE's better qualified...like flipping burgers for a living...Kerry should call it quits and stop prentending to be a musician with REAL talent, he's never fooled me. Another shipment of FUCK YOU's just arrived. Here's another hundred thousand, bitch. So yah, FUCK KERRY KING! Kerry the hack fuckin' queen of metal can keep on licking the sweat off of Hetfield's and Hammett's balls. That as close as he will ever get to REAL talent...METALLICA is the greatest source of musical inspiration, ever!!!...Peace bros.

what if he has his snare tuned differently for different songs? Or it was out of tune, and they liked it that way...could be part of a rick rubin recipe - who is actually not a producer, he's like a ebert and roeper.

METALLICA's TRICK:
Its a thought i had, that Metallica is getting back at downloading and making there new album a BRILLIANT marketing ploy.
Picture this, Metallica releases the demos of these new tracks (from the bonus disc in the coffin box, so they do exist) out first. Basically saying... if you want to hear the finish product, buy the cd, and at the same time making this album the most talked about due to the songs released so far. I think someone DID fuck up the first mp3 of TDTNC and almost blew there cover. Cause the newer one's quality is much better... being its the single and all, thats probably the only REAL track from the cd we will see until the 12th. Brilliant ill say.

Damn, can't see the Reading vid, but the pics have one that's really a throwback... 4 of 20 shows Jaymz in mid-thrash in a way we haven't seen since before the mullet. There's a live photo I've been trying to get ahold of for years with him screaming into the mike with his hear whipping forward almost obscuring his face... this pic captures that same brutal live intensity that we thought disappeared with the hair.

My 2 cents worth, regarding the snare sound. Take it for what it's worth. The snare sounds are there for a reason...at least thats what I think.
On "My Apocalypse", the snare sound totally gives it a real thrash/punk vibe to the song. Whereas on "The Day That Never Comes", the snare sound has a Epic/Metal/Hard Rock vibe to it. Which is very cool, I love them both. So far, it seems (and I'm hoping) every song has been MET-ticulously fitted with the proper snare/drums/guitars/bass sound, very cool...I can't wait to hear the best sounding record in the history of music. DEATH MAGNETIC might not be their best song writing of all their whole entire career (I hoping it is), one things for sure, it will be their best sounding album...thanks in part to METALLICA, Rick Rubin and team...
