Earlier today, the Met Club released an e-mail newsletter that said the dates on the current scheduled European tour will have pre-sales for Club members on February 1st at 10:00 AM CET which is 09:00 AM GMT, 04:00 AM EST, 01:00 AM PST.
More importantly for us over in the western hemisphere it added: "As for you Americans who have been having a good moan, we’ll have a little something for you next week."
The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival also announuces its line up next week coincidence? We think not. The Festival generally has a very diverse line up takes place this year from June 12-15th on a 700 acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. We're expecting confirmation when the Festival announces its line up on February 6th.
I dont want to drive southbound on I-57 to Tennessee I want an album. ALBUM!

They are almost making it sound like they are giving the Americans a concert date because of all the moaning and groaning.
How about a new album now because of all the moaning and groaning!!
Posted by manguy @ 02/01/2008 08:42 AM EST
i think its gonna be a mini tour, like prob 5 dates across the states....i mean 1 show to america wouldn't be fair
Posted by xino @ 02/01/2008 08:45 AM EST
Probably gonna be an album update. Hopefully a release date along with some shows in the U.S. I hope, if not I'm gonna be pissed.

I am about hour from Manchester, and I hope Metallica doesn't play there. Talk about the worst traffic in the world to get in and out of. I'll go if they are there, but would much rather see them in a stadium/convention center. Hopefully we'll hear some tour dates for the states. Or an album update.

Maybe I'll pull a stunt like Lars and not shave until the new album comes out.

Posted by MONSTER @ 02/01/2008 09:04 PM EST
This is nuts! where is the new ALBUM date? Why do they do this. WHO cares about Tennesee, Doesnt Metallica check websites like IS post about the need for the fans? If lars would read this,"WE NEED THE ALBUM OUT VERY SOOOOOON!!!!"

…and while they're making announcements, how about oh, I don't know... REAL Dates this time. None of this End of 2007, February 2008 Bullshit.
They should know the "gosh-darn" release date by now!

Really, nothing has changed in a way with Metallica in over 25 years. They are still doing things their way despite what the critics (or fans) would want. Remember - there were people who were pissed off at them for 'selling out' for the intro to Fight Fire With Fire. This is what sets them apart from all the others. They do it to suit them - if the fans dig it thats a bonus.
Patience - we will be rewarded.

Yeah, it was fade to black that got everyone's panties in a bunch back then.

The Bonnaroo people are releasing riddles to give hints to who's in the lineup. One of them is "Clouds taste this way." The Flaming Lips have an album called Clouds Taste Metallic. That's another strong hint that Metallica will indeed be at Bonnaroo this year.
As for the new album, it was five years ago this week that St. Anger album details and the North American SS tour were announced. Maybe, if we'll lucky, history will repeat itself (at least in regards to announcing a new album the first week in Feb).

Posted by Juztice @ 02/04/2008 05:45 PM EST
I know this is only an album review by some guy but it isn't the first time I've read that the reaction to the intro by the 'Tru Metal' fans wasn't that well received (it was all ok when they heard what came after it though..):
"FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE: Everyone who heard Kill Em All popped this into their record player and just waited for everything to blow up and madness to ensue all around. But suddenly they got a nicely calculated acoustic intro with hints of folk influence. The song then turns into an incredible riff soup, pure thrash goodness, with harsh vocals, thudding drums and an overall coordination and exactness worthy of a ***ing machine gun. When Metallica stops they all stop together at exactly the same time, not a millisecond apart, when Metallica starts the same rule applies. This song is yet another example of Metallica’s amazing chops and skill, yet some people, the moment they heard the acoustic intro started crying sellout as loud as possible."
I know that there were those who were carrying on a bit about Fade as well but it wasn't just that song that got some of the small-minded (if Blabbermouth was around back then thats where they would of posted) numnuts fired up.

The NY Giants saved my life this weekend. That was the worst regular season ever topped off by the best Super Bowl in years. Now I hope "Spygate" drags all of the Patriots into the darkest depths of HELL! HA HA HA!!!
And you know James can't stand the Patsies, after his Raiders got hosed in the play-offs a few years back because of the "tuck" rule. Now there's a new tuck rule, it's consists of Justin Tuck slapping that bitch Brady around the entire field on Sunday. Hilarious...

June 8 Nurnburg, DE - July 16 Bergen, NO
- Bonnaroo is on June 12-15. Technically, they could fly over in between these European Tour dates. I hope not. Jeez I really hope this is all just a rumor. Bonnaroo isn't worthy enough to have the Mighty Met grace them with their live show. On another note, I too am getting a little upset at The Boys with the no updates and the slacking in the studio. I mean, take your time and take care of all the family stuff, but don't forget what got you to where you are.
Posted by The General @ 02/05/2008 01:17 PM EST
This better be a really good album. If you look at Wikipedia regarding the article, it looks as if they spent all of 2006 writing the album and all of 2007 recording the album... I have hope it will be that good for several reasons. They CLEARLY haven't rushed the album. This is Rob's first album. They have a new producer to give them a fresh perspective. Back to E-tuning. They got back into the MOP mindset. It sounds like it will combine the epicness of RTL, MOP and AJL with the the melodicness of the Black album... Of course, it will still be Metallica 2008, so it will still have a sound that will be new to us. If they could just release a clip of something for us... BTW, its Tuesday and still no announcement they promised last week... I suppose I should expect it either late Friday or sometime next week... heheh... Boyz, we still love ya, you're just breaking our balls... big time...

Indeed, some sort sample or 'leaked' single, or EVEN SOME PHOTOS would be nice. Come on Metallica, it surely can't be that hard to take a few pictures of the studio and then type a brief report about how things are going in the studio.
This is bfmv,I like them, sounds like Metallica I think

Why do some people feel the need to go off on other people's musical tastes? This kind of intolerance seems to only pop up when it comes to entertainment (music, sports, movies, etc.). I've never heard anybody ever say something like "I like to build model airplanes" and someone replies by saying "Model airplanes suck, YOU SUCK!" or "I like to take my kids to the park", "Oh yeah! Kids and parks are for queers!" Can't we all just get along??? My current playlist consists of Beyond Fear, Iron Fire, Into Eternity, Sebastian Bach & Susperia. Let the intolerance begin!

Seriously dudes, it's worth it. Metallica and Sigur Ros. SERIOUSLY.
Anthony: Check out some proper thrash, then. It sounds a lot more similiar to Metallica then BFMV does, and it's one hell of a lot better.
I would recommend Darkness Descends by Dark Angel (a lot heavier then Tallica), and definitely Victims of Deception by Heathen- quite melodic and fairly heavy- it's up for free download on their site as well.
Also: WHAT KIND OF FAG BUILDS MODEL AIRPLANES. Seth, you listen to Into Eternity. They're fine by me ^___^

The U.S. will probably get pummeled by MetallicA concerts within the next year or two. I might have to try that TN concert. I'm off to the Chicago Auto Show. My vehicle's almost paid off...probably not a good idea for me to go because I'll probably see lots of toys, which is hard on the wallet.
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 02/08/2008 10:10 AM EST
So, wow! That was the big anouncement? The bonerjam festival? Fuck that! That's not news. So I'm sure we'll have some Metallica shows, but let's face it, they're choice of openers suck moreso than not. Godsmack was a good opener, but the Sanitarium 03 lineup? Metallica is a metal band. Linkin is fine, but they're pop, limp bizkit had already used up it's 5 minutes of fame, and anybody who stood awake for the Deftones, chop me a line! Don't get me started on Mudvayne. In my humble opinion, my fuckin' dream show would be machine head opening, Megadeth as special guest, and Metallica... If you're going to argue Metallica isn't a metal band, read blabbermouth posts about what their new album will be like, and listen to st. anger. The bob rock 'tallica days are over...

Posted by The General @ 02/08/2008 12:27 PM EST
I admit, if they were coming anywhere local, I'd go. But it doesn't take away from the fact that I'm sick of waiting for "metallica's chinese democracy". It also doesn't take away from the fact that I don't think they should tour every summer before releasing this record. IS NEW MUSIC A PRIORITY TO THEM? They talk so glowingly of the new music, the vibe writing and recording, etc. That talk is all well and good, but it doesn't mean a whole lot to us. And yes, I'm being a little whiney bitch cause I still can't beleive the Pats blew the super bowl(3 offensive lineman to the pro bowl? they should have given up their spots after that showing).

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 02/09/2008 02:02 AM EST
Regarding Heathen and what not- does anyone else here find it rather strange that old school thrash bands hardly ever get mentioned here? Instead, it's shit like Machine Head, BFMV, Avenged Sevenfold etc.
People here really need to get into some old school thrash, the lack of talk about it is rather odd.
Posted by caspian @ 02/10/2008 02:35 AM EST
I think the ones that don't talk about these new "thrash" bands are the people that listen to the old stuff. For example, I listen to just as much Megadeth as Metallica. It's just that Metallica is 10x more interesting to talk about. They're controversial and arguably better. I hate Anthrax, Slayer is okay, and I don't listen to Exodus. Also, not into the new bands. Trivium is okay, but while they technically have the sound of old school thrash down, they lack the soul and it shows.

From ENCYCMET.COM
Release date for the next album
I received this bit of info from a friend, it was originally from a Spanish magazine, Pro-Music, and was posted at the ATRL forums (formerly Aboloute TRL - a fan forum for MTV's TRL) by a member. It shows new release dates in Spain for global artists, straight from the record labels.
By looking at the calendar list for the 2008 releases it seems as though Metallica will release their as-yet untitled new album on March 18 thru Warner Music Group.
I would personally assume that if this is for Spain, then a worldwide release would be around that date, if not on the same day. Please bear in mind that the dates are subject to change without notice, so nothing should be taken as gospel.
18 March - Metallica (New album) / Warner Music Group

If it were March 18th, the Metalli-Marketing machine would be in high gear by now pushing radio stations to declare the month "MarchTallica" and creating "buzz" around all the things we've already heard over the last 2(3?) years (no need for Buzz in a beehive, gents.) I hope I get to eat my words, but I am not going to hold my breath.
Posted by Azrael @ 02/11/2008 11:21 PM EST
If this is true, which I don't think it is at all... We should hear something in my opinion by Feb. 18th. Usually bands have at least AT LEAST a month to promote an album with a single before it comes out. So if we don't hear anything in the next week I call bust, eventhough I already believe this is false.
Posted by Nick @ 02/11/2008 11:53 PM EST
I agree... poo on March 18th. And we all know that Lars Ulrich can't keep his trap shut when an album is about to come out. I predict a June release with details hitting us in March on a single, album title... etc.
Posted by Tipper @ 02/12/2008 12:43 AM EST
I am still awaiting confirmation regarding the March 18th release date from more reliable sources. Don't wanna give my hope out. Anyone know if Megadeth is planning to put out another album? United Abomination was a great album.

Sorry fellas, if Metallica doesn't meet the June deadline (which it doesn't look like they're going to) it won't be released til Early 09... Another fuckin' year, no US show except boner jam. I could live with the delaying of an album, if we could get some fuckin' shows, as this summer out here in Denver, fuck... Van Halen to start the year off, then Disturbed, Slipknot, Machine Head co headlining in summer, Megadeth in april... all that's missing is Fuckin' Metallica! I got that info from a local radio station.

So no album? lets go listen to trivium, kse, dicast, megadeth, nothing left, bfmv
Posted by Ibid @ 02/12/2008 06:57 PM EST
look on the brightside, it only took them 2 years to come up with 2 riffs and no chorus for new song #2... so 2 more years and we should have a complete song and a nice brand new t-shirt to wear.
When I heard that announcement, I didn't hear what deadline... I'm sure since Metallica is the headline act for Warner Bros. they'll want to push the new album without interfering with other acts on their roster. That's just what I heard... It's more unlikely that a march date would be set... there's no build up, just anticipation. Even if Metallica puts out an album with 9 minute songs that just rip your face off, and anally pound you, there would be a release to radio single (they've earned that right in the radio world regardless if it's metal, or spoons and hambones), or at least have some type of countdown... Oh well, as long as it's not the disgruntled step brother of ReLoad, I guess it's worth the wait.

Let's put some things in perspective here: I recently heard and read that Scott Weiland went back to rehab on his own. It just makes me think that I'm glad James has been able to remain sober. Yeah, we all want MetallicA to release this album fast because we know how great they've been and still remain great; they've entertained us for over 25+ years. I know all of us on this board are passionate about this band or we wouldn't be here. My point is this: I'm just glad James came back years ago and they're still making music together. He was afraid that he might fall off the wagon when he went back. It could've been so easy for him to throw his hands up and just leave, but he didn't and that what's counts! They had so many things against them-the Playboy interview, Napster, Jason leaving and then James' incident in rehab-MetallicA could've been through, but they're still here! Granted, I want the next album just as much as anyone and I'll stand in line as long as it takes to get the new album, but the simple fact remains that the band was very close to being over. Again, I'm just glad they still make music no matter how long it takes. I know I'll always buy their next album. I hope there are many more to come!
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 02/13/2008 09:53 PM EST
I'm calling 2 Albums after this one. I do not see them making much more after that. I just don't. We could always get them cloned....

hey guys you may wanna check this out: www.myspace.com/getloco it's cool music i think plus the first song "alteration" sounds like the load era, sort of..
Posted by escapist @ 02/14/2008 08:05 AM EST
I agree Thingy... The thing people don't recognize with rehab is there are people who want help, and people who don't. James wasn't as bad off as weiland, sixx, slash, or anselmo, but that doesn't lessen his wanting to be sober. Metallica was a hard partying band, and Slash has a really cool chapter in his book about the tour with them. Anyhow, I appreciate, and admire Hetfield for being a class guy, and someone with heart. That's why I think that he's done with the whole Load/Re-Load thing and now that Metallica has broadened their pallet, they can get back to doing what they do best and Kill'em all. Nick, no one hates Re-load, but the first five albums are the blue prints for the genre.
Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 02/14/2008 09:35 AM EST
that's why Hetfield is the Mighty Hetfield. I would say that the first 4 albums are the blueprints for the genre. I like TBA, but I hear a lot of people hate on it as much as they do Load/ReLoad. SO anybody coming to Tennessee to see The Boys in June?
Bryan Adams, Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple), Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden), Keith Emerson (Emerson Lake and Palmer), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple & Jesus Christ Superstar), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd!), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Jon Lord (Deep Purple & Whitesnake), Brian May (Queen), Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden), Paul Rodgers (Bad Company), Chris Squire (Yes) and Roger Taylor (Queen).
Posted by andrew @ 02/14/2008 03:01 PM EST
Some people hate the Black Album because they are little bitches they are crying their favorite band that no one knows about isn't just theirs anymore. Seriously, it is their job!!!! What do you do in your job? You try to make money. I respect them for everything they have done and how they have done it. I give them credit for not taking the commercial appeal over board. Honestly they could have really sold out and had someone write their songs for them. I heard Areosmith didn't write some of their later songs... one in particular that movie song " I don't want to close my eyes, I don't want to fall asleep..etc". Idk this felt good to vent! lol I hate when people call them sell outs. It's fuckin bullshit. They just got discovered for being the best band in the world, Period.

agreed. I hate it when people say they sold out with TBA. That's why it sold more than 30,000 copies last year and it was released 17 years ago. That's because its a good f'kn album.
Posted by The General @ 02/14/2008 04:43 PM EST
If commercial appeal was their primary concern, they simply could have rehashed TBA for another few albums. They made a large stylistic change for the load records, and while some called it selling out, I thought it was risky. They could have easily re-created the TBA, but they opted to try new stuff. I like aerosmith, but I do feel that having so many co-writers dilutes your stuff. And for whoever doesn't know, they've gone big-time into the co-writing thing since permanent vacation. Basically their "comeback" started when they started getting help writing singles. I like old and new aerosmith(minus the horrible just push play), but I prefer when it was just them writing the music.

As far as the state of the band, I am very happy for James that he is sober. He is sober in probably the most difficult environment to stay sober(other than working in a bar maybe). And I am thankful that they have stayed together. However, I don't feel that gives them a total pass as far as receiving some criticism. They are still adding european dates, have only thrown one bone to the US and we have 0 idea when a record may come out. Patience is one thing, 5+ years between records for a still active band is something else. If that happened once, sure. But since TBA there has been one double album, one album and a couple of new songs. That is not very productive for "one of the best all-time bands", which I agree they are. That's all. I still love em. I check this site and blabbermouth every day to hopefully catch a glimpse of something new. But I also have every right to feel they are draggin' ass big time.
Posted by kurt @ 02/14/2008 05:05 PM EST
For any album, everyone has their own opinions. I don't care much for ReLoad and it's not because I think they sold out, I just don't think the majority of songs are that great. I can't wait to hear the next album, but I've never loved everything a band has ever done and doubt I ever will.
Posted by Scott @ 02/15/2008 02:02 AM EST
i personally think calling Load or Reload a sellout is quite erroneous- however, TBA was a sellout if I've ever heard one. No epics? lots of short, concise song structures and melodies? Dumbed down lyrical content? SELLOUT. Still a good album, though.
Posted by caspian @ 02/15/2008 05:54 AM EST
Have any of you seen that there is gonna be a guitar hero game with just aerosmith music? This could be awesome if some other bands(metallica maybe?) did the same thing. I also imagine it could help generate revenues for bands since the record industry is crumbling.
Posted by kurt @ 02/15/2008 11:00 AM EST
I agree with your last statement, kurt. Bands don't make as much money now from records, but they really clean up on touring (that's why Metallica constantly tours) and music downloads (for your phone anyway).
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 02/15/2008 02:16 PM EST
One thing I am going to miss is the fact that I liked seeing how many records my favorite bands sold. Nowadays I wouldn't even know how to put the sales into proper context. I think Ozzy's last record barely went gold, even though I've heard 3 of the songs on the radio pretty regularly(much more so than his last couple of records). The last maiden, megadeth and Priest records didn't sell a hell of a lot, yet were all very good. It used to be kind of a scorecard for your favorite bands, not it is almost irrelevant. I wonder if the next metallica record even goes platinum. St. Anger barely did 2 million and I don't suppose the long layoff will be good for sales.

Please, sellout is thrown around a bit much I must say. So they want to take the next step and not be Slayer. Enough of this.

i realy dont understand how these guys thinking as for the release of the new album and all those dates about concerts...thinks of the industry maybe, but would not better for them have a new album i say as a fun and target product hahaha so im not a manager but all that is very strange

james being sober is his decision and thats great honestly but i dont like when ppl say that makes him "classy", "more adult" etc becuz i enjoy having a few beers after a hard days work like alot of other people and there is NOTHING wrong with that. its just james choice not to drink. so what

just kidding. but I heard that JH is still doing or finishing vocals, so I guess they'll be mastering it soon? Does anybody recall all of the different steps in recording an album?
I really hope for a summer release. I can wait until June! How bad-ass would it be if we got a double-album! I wonder if the delay in news is something along the lines of how to market such a thing...
Posted by Tipper @ 02/17/2008 07:53 PM EST
Where did you hear that james is stil l finishing vocals?!
Posted by Juztice @ 02/18/2008 04:04 AM EST
double album - jeez, I hope not. How bout 9 or 10 songs that are real good and sound good live. Actually a 3 track demo would be as good as anything these days. ---yeah, where did you hear JH was finishing up vocals?

Not sure about finishing his vocals, but he is definitely working on them (source is metclub).

well those pics where from january 21st, its already been a month and there hasn't been any holidays or long weekends so i would say he's pretty much done recording vocals, hopefully well get some news soon...

Just another week... and just another week with no news, nothing, nada, zipo....
Posted by Nick @ 02/18/2008 03:53 PM EST
It seemed that a lot of reasonable people were thinking a march release. Well that pretty much seems impossible unless they go with no build-up whatsoever. Which I seriously doubt, since the record companies are so desparate that they need to market this one big time. Each Monday I hope to come in to work and find out some big info that was released over the weekend. Well, yet another week with nothing. Oh well.

Is there anything from JumpInthe Studio? Is Rubin still working with Metallica until the end or will they finish the album w/o Rubin? The new album will probably say "Produced by Rick Rubin & Metallica" Life would be much interesting with some news about the band (As far as entertainment is concerned).

Well, they aren't completely quiet, as they keep releasing tour dates. Still, not hearing anything at all about the new album (or a more extended North American tour) is getting frustrating.
Posted by Trace @ 02/19/2008 08:09 PM EST
Expect the album in early November. That way the album hits for Christmas season... Little Johnny may have stopped buying albums, but Johnny's Grandmama is sure to be walking the aisle going "I've seen him wear a shirt for this band, I'll get this album for him." I was actually surprised when we heard Feb 08, since that would have put it past the Christmas season, and I won't be a little surprised when we see the album in the second week of November. (Which year is up for debate.)
Posted by Azrael @ 02/20/2008 02:35 AM EST
I say early '09. Why not, they've waited this long, why not prolong it further. Metallica might be the laziest band ever.
Posted by The General @ 02/20/2008 08:44 AM EST
Maybe the delay has to to do with the fact that James cannot sing songs in E anymore(hope not)and that's the reason that the recording procedure is stuck on the vocals.
Posted by Jesius @ 02/20/2008 10:25 AM EST
Guys seriously, even I have enough faith and logic to know this album is not coming out in 2009. Are you fing serious? Even to say November is ridiculous. There is know way this album comes out later than Summer.

well one thng we know is we will get a new song on this euro tour live. i think it'll kick major ass musically for sure. the thing that worries me most honestly is lyrics, melody and delivery. do you guys agree?

Virginia Fuel, Virginia's local chapter of the Metallica Club (the official METALLICA fan club), has published an interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich's longtime assistance Steven Wiig. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Virginia Fuel: Have you had a chance to listen to the new stuff that METALLICA is working on for the new album?
Steve Wiig: "I hear it all of the time. I can't get away from it. (laughing) I'm usually in or around the studio with them. There's some fast stuff, heavy stuff, slow stuff. There's some stuff on there that sounds a little bit closer to the "Fade to Black"/"Sanitarium"/"One"-style of song... the clean guitar/riff thing, a great melody... verse stuff with the heavy chorus and the ending blows the shit out of the roof. It's cool to hear them doing that kind of thing again. That's what Rick [Rubin, producer] has been saying — don't be afraid of doing more of what you do really well. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Just make a really good METALLICA record."
Posted by MORE BEER @ 02/21/2008 09:18 AM EST
Wiig added, "So far — as far as I know — James [Hetfield] is doing all of the lyrics himself, and not necessarily like what was done for "St. Anger" (the group effort). I’d imagine Rick would want James to go off into his own world and tap into his own things and get lyrics that come from the heart. Myself, I've written songs (for bands that I've been in) both ways (alone and collaboratively) and they both have their own strengths and weaknesses. I think James' track record has definitely shown he is capable of coming up with some deep shit (lyrics) when he taps into it on his own. I'm anxious to hear what he digs up lyrically."
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 02/21/2008 06:46 PM EST
Well this pretty much confirms a Summer release. Steve has to be a pretty good source obviously and he said he would be surprised if it came out in the spring... so yeah... this really sucks. I hope it is as good as it sounds.
Posted by Nick @ 02/22/2008 06:08 AM EST
in that picture of Steve and Jim Breuer, was that one of the kids from Hanson in the background? I bet they release another record before Metallica does.

There goes spring break. I wished i could have been jaming to some new metallica tunes during spring break, but it looks like this album has been postponed for more than a year. I really thought this album was supposed to come out late in 2007.

Who gives a crap about promoting the new album. Metallica has their own reputation, and if you put it on the web that metallica will put out the album at the end of the month it will sell itself. I know i be the first one at the cd store standing in line to buy the album.
Posted by Bond @ 02/22/2008 06:20 PM EST

Posted by xino @ 02/23/2008 02:23 PM EST
especially these days, with album sales in decline. They'll promote the hell out of this album, but it'd still sell like hot cakes, if they didn't.........especially if it's jammin' and heavy, which it will be.
Posted by The General @ 02/23/2008 10:22 PM EST
well only time will tell. new song number one can be described amazing on paper:long, fast parts, slow parts, rippin solos, double bass...but then you listen to it and it sounds like a st anger left over with some half ass solos. so who knows.

This is sad, no news so I start dreaming about it. I want to dream about Jessica Alba, but noooooooo I am dreaming of Metallica.
Posted by Robert @ 02/29/2008 12:12 PM EST
I've decided to stop bitching about it, at least for now. It's not doing me any good. I watched some of SKOM the other night and then fell asleep. It reminded me how close they were to being done. It doesn't excuse this delay, but I guess I can just view them like one of the really older bands(stones, acdc) who also have a long layoff between records.
Posted by kurt @ 02/29/2008 01:16 PM EST
yeah Kurt, whenever I see sKoM clips it makes me think that they were ALMOST done. And that my last Metallica show was the last one I'd ever attend, kinda scary. I am anxious to here what the reason is that's making this album take so long to finish. Maybe R. Rubin is wearing his sorcerer hat and commanding they make a pure Metallica record, hopefully. I predict 10 trax.(hopefully with old style logo of some sort)

Hard to believe that the 2 "new" songs were played almost 2 years ago.
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 02/29/2008 05:22 PM EST
yeah thats just it..james brought a ronnie and poor twisted me demo into bob rock and he recorded it. where as rubin listens to 10 demos and tells them they have 4 songs and see you in a month when you get your shit together.a little more complex than that but its something you saw bob rock do with the black album.."you call that a guitar solo?" and making james sing unforgiven 400 times.and metallica might be metallica the all mighty but that shit is necessary because just cause you laid a golden egg doesnt mean you can take a steaming pile of crap and spray paint it gold and have the same result.
Posted by sean @ 02/29/2008 05:33 PM EST
and as far as them being "almost done" dont forget about 1986 bus accident and then recording garage days and ..and justice for all. anotherwards just cause they almost broke up doesnt excuse a great band from making great music. if the guy from def leapord with one arm can still somehow manage a drum roll...
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 03/01/2008 11:03 AM EST

At this point I almost don't care. I've sort of exhausted myself of the anticipation to where I don't feel it anymore. I'm sure I will once a release date is set, but for now it's better than being pissed about it all the time. Anyways, I saw a post where Larz is being interviews on Bruce Dickinson's radio show. Larz I know liked Maiden, but big mouth Bruce has had a few bad things to say about metallica. This could be interesting.
Posted by kurt @ 03/03/2008 08:49 AM EST
I wonder if the band and label are waiting for the anticipation to die down and then release all of the info at once. Can you imagine the instant rise in interest? It would be nice to see them distance themselves from the reputation they gained from St Anger.
I know this seems corny to say, but I really believe in whatever it is they're doing. I think it will totally kill.
Posted by Tipper @ 03/03/2008 08:50 PM EST
Check this...according to wikipedia.com, the only thing left to do on the album is the mastering. and that is currently in progress. the name of the guy is up there, check it out. so hopefully we can expect the album by the end of april, just in time for the little "vacation" that metallica has planned for the summer.
HELL FCKN YEA DUDES!!!!!!!!!

wikipedia.com, check it out. metallica has just mastering left for the album. 100% true..
I am thinking those interviews were before Rubin heard a lot of the music they had ready for him. I assume after these interviews Tallica showed Rubin what they had, he said it is shit and now this is why it is not here in 07'. Any thoughts?
Posted by Nick @ 03/06/2008 12:26 PM EST
I agree Nick. Rubin is cracking the whip and demanding a great album. Bob Rock would have heard the demos and said "Sounds good to me! Put a few more 'Whoas' in there and wrap it up. Do you guys want to over-produce this one or make it sound as shitty as possible? How about we just leave it the way it is and release the demos." Seriously though, Rubin isn't going to put his name on an average Metallica album. The wait will be worth it.

Though in this nightmare of no new info I am rediscovering my love for Megadeth. Their old stuff kills the new albums, but at least you can put them on to mellow out to. Sad to say that, but I hope Metallica puts out something as aggressive or even more than their first four albums.
Could you imagine that? If we got something as good as Reign in Blood? The world might explode...

Well, in their latest update, they at least acknowledged that they're "finishing up the album." But, the actual new info in the update is that they're re-releasing their albums on vinyl, starting with KEA and RTL on April 15th in North America.
Posted by Trace @ 03/07/2008 03:25 PM EST
Yeah but they also say that Master and Justice should be coming out in June which means that the new album is not going to be released before that
Posted by Jesius @ 03/07/2008 03:28 PM EST
The fact that they haven't actually announced the album release already should tell you that. The announcement will be three or four months before the actual release. So keep that in mind the longer this drags out.
Posted by Trace @ 03/07/2008 04:58 PM EST
I agree, it will be at least two months from the announcement date until it's actually released. I'm seriously thinking it's end of summer or fall before we see this record.

Apparently, on the metboards...some were listening to the Bruce DICKenson interview with Lars and others. Don't know all the Q&A but we know that 4-6 mo. left of recording ≠ summer release unfortunately. From the horse's mouth, he said September is kinda the goal, but mostly the Fall season.
He also said when people hear it they won't be thinking about the long wait after hearing the first 30 sec.

What the hell am i gonna do with freaking vinyl. don't even have a vinyl player. this is just ridiculous and just another way of making money for the record company. Another year with no Metallica. HOpefully Megadeth will put out another album before that.
Posted by Bond @ 03/08/2008 12:41 AM EST
Looks like it's later this year:
Metal hammer So, any ballpark on a release date? Month? Season? Decade?
Lars Ulrich I don’t want to make any promises, because if I say you know, it might come out around… September, and it doesn’t, the kids will all be like ‘fuck you Lars’ but I would say a fall release is…somewhat the projection. People are going to, you know “hear stuff” at the shows [this summer] that they haven’t heard before, and you know, that should tide them over until it [the album] is out.
So, some new stuff previewed in Summer, and the aim being september (but he's not to sure about it, so expect it a good deal later)

damn, that was terrible formatting. Oh well.
Posted by caspian @ 03/08/2008 03:16 AM EST
If i'm not mistaken, that was last year interview with Metal Hammer.
Posted by $trangeR @ 03/08/2008 08:36 AM EST
Lars calls us "kids". We were kids when they started working on this album but we're old geezers now.
Posted by Seth @ 03/08/2008 11:56 AM EST
I will definitely be getting those vinyls jut to add to my collection. Maybe I can find a record player somewhere on ebay or something to play them once on. I think it's a cool idea, bu I want some new fuckin music!!!!! FUCK KERRY KING!!!! I saw his dick head on the cover of guitar worlds 300th mag, along with a bunch of others. Of course, James & Kirk are on there too, and a couple of really cool spots of interviews with James & Kirk through the years.
Posted by MONSTER @ 03/08/2008 12:00 PM EST
OK, you wanted release date ?! Well, here you are, according to Lars, the new album should be out in....... SEPTERMBER (2008 i hope). The link below confirms rumors which we had some months ago about autumn release.
ok i just read another article of famous rockstars wives complaining about going on tour and putting stress on the marriage etc...and i just wanna say SHUT THE FUCK UP! you married a rock star not an accountant. jesus . sit in your million dollar home and stop threatening divorce over a tour and a few beers. woman are never satisfied.
theres so many people that they talk about master and ride and yes i agree , but my personal opinion is that justice is a complete album , i know that many they say about the bass thing but the song writing for me is almost perfect and very ahead for the time that had relesead.....so yes i really would like a album complex as justice
Posted by kotrinio @ 03/12/2008 09:19 AM EST
justice has always been my fav metallica album....i dont really care about the mixing, its just that good...
Posted by xino @ 03/12/2008 09:43 AM EST
wonder why Hetfield says that Justice is his least favorite album? probably cause of the length, and because he could never play all of Frayed Ends, live, all the way through.
Posted by The General @ 03/12/2008 10:22 AM EST
I think they downplay justice cause it was the first new material since cliff died and it must have been an emotional drain on them to make it. While they may trash it, plenty of songs from it are regularly played, so subconsciously they must like the music.
Posted by kurt @ 03/12/2008 01:09 PM EST
in an interview with german metal hammer 2003 hetfield said this his most fave metallica-records are justice, tba and st. anger.
Posted by santor @ 03/13/2008 05:23 AM EST
I thought he said, Ride, tba and st. anger, but I could remember wrong. I vividly recall lars saying he found it "unlistenable", although I think he was primarily referring to the production.
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 03/13/2008 08:40 PM EST
the IFC channel played the Some Kind Of Monster movie today, was watching bits and pieces of it. Really weird seeing that movie now since it's been so long. Listening to the band members really go on about St. Anger and how much they love that album and want to play it live... we all know they barely play any of the songs live anymore... lots changed I guess...

it was huge in europe, thats why they tour over there and not in the states....
Posted by xino @ 03/14/2008 10:00 AM EST
Metal is huge in Europe. The American music landscape is dominated by R&B, Rap and Country. Meanwhile, bands like The Haunted, Hammerfall and Children of Bodom top the charts and win awards in Europe. The biggest metal concerts in the world are in Europe. It's pretty sad, really.
Posted by Seth @ 03/14/2008 11:35 AM EST
Yeah they aren't brainwashed and corrupt like the music is in the states.
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 03/15/2008 10:50 AM EST
Most of Metallica's album were released in the fall. so I am certain their next album will hit shelves around september or october.
Posted by Bond @ 03/15/2008 11:09 AM EST
david hasslehof is big in europe.
alot of ppl think its SO METAL in europe. the music sux over there. most of the ppl listen to shitty dance music like robbie williams. its just like USA. ppl listen to U2,SUBLIME,JAY-Z,U2,U2 and metallicas black album.
Posted by sean @ 03/16/2008 11:56 AM EST
Damn. So that's not even a solid September. That's a maybe-September. That so sucks!
Posted by Tipper @ 03/16/2008 12:10 PM EST
May 28th is the first gig they play on the new tour... So, I say its only a little over two months until we finally hear new Metallica. How on earth could they NOT play SOMETHING from the new album due out a short while after this tour? May 28th is the day I am looking forward to. Maybe we'll hear a new song called "Black Squirrel and Glass Cow drink German Soup".
Posted by D-J @ 03/16/2008 08:37 PM EST
It would be nice if Metallica went the way of Disturbed and released a finished song via their website to at least give us something! i'm dyin' here!
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 03/18/2008 03:24 PM EST
james still recording vocals as of february 25th
Posted by xino @ 03/19/2008 08:57 PM EST
Don't worry guys... It will be a great album. It must be if it takes this long!
Posted by Tipper @ 03/19/2008 09:10 PM EST
Don't everbody comment at once!
Posted by Tipper @ 03/21/2008 06:42 PM EST
Damn! I'm drunk right now... pretty crunked if I don't say so myself son! Life has sucked lately, and I hope to God Metallica goes on for at least another ten years. I just turned 30 a few weeks ago, and that's one constant that I hope stays. Between broken bones, bruised livers, blood shot eyes, Metallica has been a passion since 91 when I was in 8th grade. I love all you motherfuckers... even JD though he blocked me at work. We're a community! This is like a gang... we bleed for this fuckin' band, and though the wait on a new album is frustrating... it'll be worth it! Lately I've been playing some Re-Load. Carpe Diem Baby (damn you JD), and Prince Charming... Maybe I've had too many whiskeys in the jar, but God Damn it, I'm throwin' down for the clown son! Hope y'all fuckerz have a great weekend, and here's to gittin' laid! Peace!

There is no shame in therapy man.
Posted by manguy @ 03/22/2008 10:52 AM EST
it is absolutely dead in metallica-land. no sight nor sound. maybe axl has come in to help the band, and told them to start over. beginning with custom fit white leather jacklets and corn-rows
Posted by The General @ 03/25/2008 04:54 PM EST
Just killing time with a thought. Do you think metallica would ever authorize a guitar hero game for them like aerosmith did? I've been playing GHIII with my son and we've been having a blast. I like that it is teaching him some good tunes, not all the poppy crap his mom listens to. He had me make him a CD of a lot of the songs that I have that are on it and he loves it. I didn't burn Number of the Beast though. He's 8 and I didn't think he needed to hear those lyrics just yet.
Posted by kurt @ 03/25/2008 05:41 PM EST
still though... if he's even interested in Iron Maiden that's awesome. You're starting him out right in the ways of metal.
Yeah, I wish there was a Guitar Hero: Metallica... or maybe even a Thrash edition. I'd go insane for it!
Posted by Tipper @ 03/26/2008 12:54 AM EST
I agree that that would be the most awesome thing ever.
Rock Band: Metallica would also be pretty sweet.
Posted by caspian @ 03/26/2008 04:07 AM EST
You know there is NOTHING to talk about when conversations like this start... lol
Posted by Nick @ 03/26/2008 04:44 AM EST
So boring, Still enjoing the United Abomination album. If megadeth can put out an album so can metallica, but it takes them soooo long
how about some interesting metallica news? maybe something about a new record perhaps? yeah!
Posted by Juztice @ 03/28/2008 07:11 PM EST
Arrrgh! nothing new, not even a full US tour? How about the release date? why not?
Posted by Bond @ 03/28/2008 09:04 PM EST
Tour dates being announced monday.... I am guessing US tour dates.. any CANADIAN DATES MAYBE???? probably not
Posted by Yukoner @ 03/29/2008 01:34 PM EST
No, they are going to announce the British Reading/Leeds festival at the end of August.
Posted by F1XXX3R @ 03/30/2008 04:08 AM EST
ahh really?? Shit I was hopeing they might do a U.S. tour and Maybe.. but unlikely go to Alaska, which is the only place close to where I live where they could possibly play
Posted by Yukoner @ 03/30/2008 03:23 PM EST
I have a feeling that they may be holding off on doing any type of significant North American tour due to the economy. But, yeah, it looks like this announcement on Monday will just be them headlining Reading.
