Setlist from last night's show as part of the Bridge School Benefit....
I Just Want To Celebrate (Rare Earth) Please Don't Judas Me (Nazareth) Only Happy When It Rains (Garbage) Brothers In Arms (Dire Straits) Disposable Heroes All Within My Hands Turn The Page Nothing Else Matters
Night two: I Just Want To Celebrate (Rare Earth) Please Don't Judas Me (Nazareth) Veteran of Psychic Wars (Blue Oyster Cult) Brothers In Arms (Dire Straits) Disposable Heroes All Within My Hands The Unforgiven Nothing Else Matters
Gotta love the boys. They show up and do a setlist of eight songs, five of which were covers, four of them never done by Metallica before. It also wasn't until the last two songs of the night that they did something the non-Metallica fans in the audience would actually know. Ha! That's great! Oh, and that video clip sounded pretty damn cool. I can't wait to hear Only Happy When It Rains, Brothers in Arms and All Within My Hands.
Posted by Trace @ 10/28/2007 12:12 PM EST
I just want to celebrate was ultra cool! They need to post more songs... I'm glad they weren't predictable and didn't duplicate 97's set... My Rockies are getting creamed! Oh well... they made it this far and are 3 years ahead of schedule. Boston is a great team, and are too much for a ball club that's just putting it together. Broncos by 10 pack fans... sorry for you. They're 0 for 5 here son!

I love Dire Straits. Can't wait to hear their version of Brothers in Arms.

Only Happy when It rains?WTF?Metallica covering garbage? That sucks men!
Posted by Jesius @ 10/28/2007 01:16 PM EST
Brothers In Arms is one of my all-time favorite songs! Metallica covering this is AWESOME! They always seem to cover my faves from other bands, like Stone Cold Crazy, Tuesday's Gone & Turn The Page. Gotta love this.
Posted by Seth @ 10/28/2007 01:48 PM EST
Gotta say the cover I'm most forward to hearing is the Garbage song.
Funny, thing... this is a tune I've been tinkering around with covering when/if I get my own band together.
The clip I heard of Disposable Heroes wasn't that impressive to my ears. Looking forward to All Within My Hands... a gutsy idea from the boys.
Posted by IS-JD @ 10/28/2007 01:55 PM EST
what a cool setlist! hope they change it a lil bit tonight
Posted by xino @ 10/28/2007 04:51 PM EST
just bought the show off live metallica, holy shit! all within my hands....sounds epic! what a great song!
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 10/28/2007 06:13 PM EST
Sounds pretty good so far. I'd say that I like All W/in My Hands the best so far, but I haven't listened to the songs all that much. New stuff up on Metontour.com w/ 30 seconds of each song-better audio quality. They have some pics. on there, too.

Wow! Garbage.. Nazaeth, Dire Straits.. crazy I HAVE to see this, I wonder how they pulled off Knopfler, I think he might be one of the most difficult guitarists to emulate

Totally love that they pulled out some nutty shit, and can't wait to hear all within my hands. One thing you could never call these guys....predictable. Also, I have been hearing the name metallica on the radio lately(even on one of the wifey's pop stations) mentioning the upcoming record. Once they start talking about this stuff on radio, it means someone from the record company told em it's not too far off.
Posted by kurt @ 10/29/2007 09:29 AM EST
So they did a BOC cover last night and it was not Astronomy?!! Crap, I love that song, and it would be awesome to hear live.
Posted by manguy @ 10/29/2007 10:32 AM EST
Just checked out the clips from the Bridge Show, and damn, the boys sound amazing! Het's voice is superb, the best its sounded in ages. I for one wasn't surprised at all by the eclectic choice of cover songs, as it is a trademark of rick rubin to have the bands he's working with try out of the box covers. In fact, I was hoping Met would have one on the new album, it looks like I might get my wish. Do you guys think this is what's going on?
Posted by the poster @ 10/29/2007 12:04 PM EST
I doubt there will be any covers on the record. If anything, b-sides if they actually continue to release singles. I just heard the first three songs and all within my hands. They sounded great, although I'm not big on the first song.
Posted by kurt @ 10/29/2007 12:07 PM EST
There will not be a cover on the new one. I highly highly believe that. All With in My Hands was the shit!
Posted by Nick @ 10/29/2007 02:12 PM EST
I also think these could be B-sides, kurt. Who knows, maybe it'll be a DVD release. I think we're due for one soon-maybe have something with Master of Puppets played live is its entirety and the Bridge songs as a bonus w/ the new album.
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 10/29/2007 02:22 PM EST
I guess the biggest surprise for me where the sheer number of covers... 5 (6 over the 2 night stand), seems a bit much, especially with four (per night) being unknown to most Metallica fans.
While initially I was disappointed by Disposable... I am digging parts of it now - I still don't think the vocal work all that well with the lyrics. Of the rest of it, 'Celebrate' despite being as uptempo and happy as it is... works pretty damn well. I do think most of the rest of the set (notably the new covers) gets a little loss with it's very similar tempo's and... although on their own, they all have the potential to be gems.
My biggest complaint - the terrible LiveMetallica mixes... James' vocals are mixed way too high to listen at a normal volume.
Posted by IS-JD @ 10/29/2007 03:05 PM EST
you guys r nuts man i thought every song wuz fucking amazing..watched every song on youtube and i thought it wuz great. all within my hands totally re-aranged and is a 10/10. the off the wall covers wuz a real refresher for me i dont need to hear enter sandman ever again in my life. im about new covers and new material and the new arrangement for disposable hereos wuz different and amazing . kick ass
Posted by sean @ 10/29/2007 03:13 PM EST
Yes, JD, it was the sheer number of the covers, indeed. Thats what leads me to beliveve that Rick had them working on a few to pick one for the record, it's what he's known for when working with legendary, established acts. They probably decided to play them all just to see what felt best.
Posted by the poster @ 10/29/2007 03:41 PM EST
Serioulsy if anyone thinks Metallica is gonna put a cover on the actual record you have to be joking... B-Side IF anything.
I also did not mind all the covers. It was nice to hear something different for once. Brother In Arms I thought was pretty damn awesome for a cover. I have never personally listened to the original, but still enjoyed hearing it. The songs don't have to be "known well" for them to play. I just think thats stupid. All With in My Hands though was the shit.
Posted by Nick @ 10/29/2007 04:23 PM EST
There is no way a cover song will be on their first studio album in 100 years. It would be a waste of space. There is probably a better chance of Dave Mustaine making a cameo appearence on the new album.----------all these acoustic trax are growing on me a little. I was a little disappointed at first that they didn't play some of their great songs in this acoustic forum. They could have made some of their stuff sound soooo good. Still haven't heard Unforgiven, anyone else heard it yet?
Posted by The General @ 10/29/2007 04:46 PM EST
anyway we can get better quality clips other then from Metallicalive?
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 10/29/2007 06:27 PM EST
I kind of agree with the General in that I would've liked to hear more of their classic songs revamped. Then again, I've always respected the way Metallica does what THEY want to do. That said, I heard the Unforgiven, and I can tell you that this is why we saw James holding the 12-string. You can hear it in the little interlude.
Posted by Ice Nine @ 10/29/2007 07:03 PM EST
I just want to comment on some bashing or -you might just call it negative comments- on Metallica's performance at the Bridge School Benefit concerts..
There are some things I want to get accross..
First of all: Metallica has been in the studio for more than half a year now, working on an album that almost everyone is sceptic about. I really do not understand why..?! Some people might think that the Metallica spirit has gone after several years of absence, making some controversial albums and not really showing what the really can do...and achieve
But..There is something these last two shows at the BRB have proven..This is of course after listening to it.. First of all, have you ever thought about the fact that these covers do not only represent the creativiness of these guys, meaning that: - if you listen to the original versions of the song, you notice some additions and/or changes in the song that really make it stand out as a Metallica tune. But also the choise of covers make you want to think again.. For instance, why would they pick a St. Anger song and make it into something sounding so beautiful and melancholic as if it never was a St. Anger song..????
In simple words: I think these 2 concerts a simply great in many ways. The greatest thing might be the fact that it shows a Metallica that IS ALIVE, creative and hungry...and that has something to say for all the Metallica fans out there who are sceptic (I really don't know how to write it..) about future releases :)
Take care and thanks for reading.
Greetz
Posted by Sleevezipper @ 10/29/2007 09:59 PM EST
Who is bashing?
I think the wonderful thing about IS as opposed to the Met.com and other boards is that the opinions are generally constructive and not bashing.
...and damn, these tunes are growing on me.
Posted by IS-JD @ 10/29/2007 11:41 PM EST
Thank you General for making my point more clear, there will NOT be a cover on the album, period. Man o man if All With In My Hands was more like the acoustic version... wow that song would b insane.

O yes, Favre is god... and FUCK KERRY KING!!!!!!
Posted by Nick @ 10/30/2007 03:16 AM EST
I didn't mean anyone @ this board. I read a lot of bashing on the Metallica BB itself and onthers. I don't understand the bashing or negativeness. I really love both concerts and I am very happy with them. :)
Posted by Sleevezipper @ 10/30/2007 06:27 AM EST
look at that blabbermouth link and at the top the dude talks about Hetfield's voice being gone. Quote, "Hetfield's interpretive singing is not the band's strong suit."---------how crazy is that. blubbermouth loves to put that stuff up and bash the boys. Everyone that is everyone knows that Hetfield's vocals have always been the industry standard. Point being that there doesn't seem to be too much slammin, just opinions about the last two shows. Which are growing on me bigtime. Maybe its just because it something new, or maybe 'cause its pretty good AND all the more reason to get excited about the next record. Damn is it february yet?
Posted by The General @ 10/30/2007 08:55 AM EST
Anyone have a link for The Unforgiven or any other songs from the 2nd night? I've been listening to MOP a lot lately.
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 10/30/2007 09:31 AM EST
no covers on the new album, and het's voice sounds good...
Posted by xino @ 10/30/2007 12:19 PM EST
Nick, here is a link to the Dire Straits video to Brothers In Arms. It's the edited version of the song (the longer version has a longer intro and outro and is superior) but it's still awesome. James botched the first verse on the first night but I bet he got it right in night two, I'll have to download that one as well. Can't wait to hear Veteran of a Thousand Psychic Wars.
Disposable Hereos acustic version is still blowing my mind 2 days later... wow...
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 10/30/2007 06:12 PM EST
seriously, me too. Liking these trax more and more. Something I just thought of, when the show first started, and they played "Celebrate", I bet EVERYONE thought it was a new song. that's funny. typical metallica.
Posted by The General @ 10/30/2007 06:58 PM EST
Hetfield's voice sounds better than it has in years.
Call me a rebel, but I think the Garbage song is tied with All Within My Hands as the concerts' highlight.
Amazing.

metallica bb is all 13yr olds with sum vets thrown in..this is all veterans and u can tell cuz there is no song vs song or pointless newbie threads on here..thats wut 8th graders argue about. then of course blabbermouth is metallica sold out in 91 crowd but they were born in 1992

once i was at this bar and these two guys where putting all these metal songs, so i talked to the guys and of course i said that metallica is one of my fav bands and one of 'em was like after playing "dear mother dear father!!" and then you know, buying the new album and playing "and nothing else matters" he felt that they sold out, i tried to explain him that selling out and change are two different thing but he was too drunk to understand...

Just got the FLAC version off Live Metallica of the first nights show. It sounds like James was having a good time out there and his voice really does sound great. At least this is something to listen to while waiting patiently (impatiently?) for the new album!

You can buy two songs from iTunes... The Four Horsemen (quite possibly my fave of the four shows) and Fade to Black.
Posted by IS-JD @ 11/02/2007 12:27 AM EST
I have it on CD (A+), along with 3 trax from 97, NEM, Bleeding and a Seek/FFWF medley. Got anything to trade?

they are basically the same setlists, the only change is fade to black, instead they play creeping death and well they had a lot of guests so it kinda sounds different
low man`s lyric helpless tuesdays gone poor twisted me creeping death the four horsemen nothing else matters last caress
Posted by xino @ 11/02/2007 10:09 AM EST
yeah we can work out something. What else do you have?......I just downloaded the 10.27.07 BSB show cause I had to have more. Going to add the two differnt trax to one cd the other show. Kinda torn on a favorite track. Hetfield forgot the lyrics on Unforgiven, which was the favorite. Now brother in arms is up there. What about the Frayed Ends of sanity jam they did? might here that on the next tour.
Got the second show now too, both are awesome. In constant rotation in my car now. I'm starved for new Metallica when I'm buying 2 almost identical shows lol.

Metallifans set your calendar for February as that looks like the target release date for Metallica's new studio album. The Examiner.com spoke with Lars just before the Bridge School benefit about a variety of topics including the new CD. It is almost finished; the band will be polishing up vocal mixes until December.
Fans may be stunned by the decision to waive longtime producer Bob Rock for Rubin. Lars Ulrich: "But for our own sanity, our own creative survival, we needed to work with a different set of circumstances and dynamics," Ulrich says. "So we've been stripped of our defense mechanisms, and it's been very invigorating to be challenged again. Rick's taken everything we've known about making records and completely turned it upside down."
And song titles? Ulrich says, "There's one called "19," "10," "German Soup," Glass Cow," and even "Black Squirrel." Just names that relate to where the idea came from, like Glasgow, Scotland became "Glass Cow." And when we don't have anything clever to call it, we just call it a number. They're just silly working titles."
Are the songs punchier, four or five minutes long? "Well, the most of the intros are four to five minutes," he says. "I don't know Metallica and short songs just don't go that well together. But whereas 'St. Anger' was an exercise in over-pummelling the listener, these new songs echo some of our stuff from the '80s long, epic journeys through different musical landscapes, heavier, but a lot more melodic."

hey guys... I've got a bit of a problem. The company that currently hosts us is giving me more than a bit of a hassle. So, that leads me to a couple of options... 1. I pay them despite their billing dept. being a huge pain in my ass. 2. Move the site over to the other host I use (that actually seems to care about its customers) - this would be a pain in the ass to move over all the files and change the settings in the codes that run things like the comments, etc. Potential for some downtime and some data loss. 3. Let IS die, I just don't have the time to devote to her like I once did... and while it's not terribly expensive to maintain, it does cost a few bucks.
Posted by IS-JD @ 11/04/2007 02:48 PM EST
Damn JD, that's pretty crappy. I'm sure I can speak for everyone here when we say we hope you don't close down the site. This is one of the few places us fans can have a decent discussion about our favorite band(s).
My suggestion is do whatever is easiest for you, which in turn would keep you motivated on keeping the site up. :)
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 11/04/2007 07:24 PM EST
damn i hope this site doesn't go away. it's the only way to get good news!!!! hopefully something works out. i personally only use this site for the latest news and commenting with everyone. if i want history or anything you can go to metallica.com. so anyways, as long as i can comment with everyone and we find news together it works for me.

Damn, sounds like you're in a tough situation JD. I love the site, but you've gotta do what's best for you. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
A semi bit of random news- James and Rick were spotted together at one of Bruce Springsteen's shows in LA last week.

yeah i been here since the beginning with ya but whatever you gotta do. if ya move the site it doesnt have to be elaborate, just a news and comments section will do. i know half of us arent metallica crazy anymore ..i remmeber the hype for reload ..unfortunetly we got one more studio album since lol but its all good... what would keeping the site up until the album comes out entail?

IS-JD, man, do you you have to do. If this site goes, I'll be bummed. Years ago, I used to go to encycmet.com all the time to check out the latest news, but this site is a lot better. I like that you can just type away here and not have to register for anything. The official Met. board is full of crap. This is like a community. Again, you have to do what only you can do, man. Best of luck! There are a lot of cool people on here.

Just wanted to echo everyone else and say that this is a great site and I would mourn it's passing. That said, we all have lives and understand that this is something that you do because you love the band not because you get loot from it. So do what is best for you. We will live.
Thank you for the opportunity to read other coherent and mostly well thought out points on the band as well as a chance to put up our own.
Peace

yeah I remember coming here way back in the day. Simple but effective. Surely we can do a trimmed down version of IS on another server and get people to float you some paypal to keep this ship afloat. Although a dancing webcam COULD be the ticket.....

Boy that sucks. But you've got a life and expenses of your own. There's lots of stuff I wish I had the time for but don't. I agree with some of the comments above though, a simplified site with pretty much a forum like this for us to vent, bs, chat, whatever, would be cool. Do as you must bro, and best of luck no matter what way you go.

Got to agree that this is a great site for the tallica fans, but I'm sure something good will come out somehow. Things always sort themselves out, one way or the other. How long has this site been up? I know that I have been comming to this site for over 4 years!! Webhosting is definatly not the easiest job.
Posted by Bond @ 11/05/2007 09:49 PM EST
JD, I'm sure this can be a thankless job at times. Let me say that although I would hope for the site to remain in some form somewhere on the web, I can totally understand why you may want/need to call it a day. As our friends James, Lars, Kirk, and Rob have been finding out the last 5 or so years, there's more to life than Metallica. There are so many other things in life that you must make time for. Whether you decide to continue or pack it in, let me say thank you for providing not just a source for news, a forum where I can read/engage in intelligent discussion on all things 'Tallica, but a community where the posters for the most part respect each others opinions and tastes.(unlike some sites). Been coming here since 1997 (pre-Reload)although I've only begun posting in the last 4-5 years. I hope we are all able to sound off here (or a new IS somewhere else?) when the new Metallica album drops, but if you have to move on, thanks for the great job on this site over the years!
Posted by EET FUK @ 11/05/2007 10:46 PM EST
Damn IS, that sucks. I've been coming here for my Metallica news for at least 10 years now. I understand things change and other things in life become more important. Do what ya gotta do, appreciate the hard work over the years. IS is the best. Cheers!
Posted by DuManchu @ 11/06/2007 09:40 AM EST
why was this "news" about the future of IS website placed on the post, instead on the news section? There is definatly more to life than metallica.
Posted by Nate @ 11/06/2007 06:33 PM EST
JD, I've been coming to this site since shortly after re-load. There have only been a couple of other sites that I've visited (encycmet, metallica.com,allmetallica). I've always found this site to be the best for news and also posts. I only started to post recently, but I've viewed the site at least once a day for the last 10 years. I understand that things happen in ife. Just looking at myself and my job, there is no way I could have put up such an awesome site and had running for the time you did. Like all of us, wanna say thanks & hopefully we can have something where we can all meet and chat like we have for so long. It is a thankless job and hopefully you will know that we all appreciate everything you hae done. Once again JD, thanks for all your hard work and being an awesome member of the Metallica family. Salut!!! Since this might be my last post.......wanna say a couple of things..... first...Fuck Kerry King (of course) & long live our heroes, Metallica. Let's all buy the new cd in Feb(?hopefully) and enjoy. I really think after all this time and effort from them, that we should have something special in our hands. Yes they've changed, but their music and live performances will always be burnt into our hearts and minds.
One last time: Thanks IS-JD

I went to the Van Halen concert last night(worcester, MA). I gotta say, that was REALLY fuckin loud. Of all the shows I've been to, last night, and Aerosmith on the Nine Lives tour, were the two loudest shows I've ever been to. I wouldn't expect that in comparison to a lot of the much heavier bands that I've seen. They were really good and you really didn't miss Michael Anthony much. Hope this site stays up. See ya.

NY Times article about Rubin: Whenever he agrees to produce an album, Rubin scrutinizes the songs before going into the studio. Currently, he is producing records for the hard rock band Metallica, the nerd power-pop band Weezer (it is part of his deal with Columbia that he can produce albums for acts that are not signed to the label) and the legendary Neil Diamond. Rubin works slowly it can take him years to finish an album. "A lot of that is because of the songs," Rubin explained. "I try to get the artist to feel like they are writing songs for the ages rather than songs for an album. As they write, they come over and play the songs for me. For some reason, most people will write 10 songs and think, That's enough for a record, I'm done. When they play the songs for me, invariably the last two songs they've written are the best. I'll then say, 'You have two songs, go back and write eight more.' "
His responses are instant, specific and constructively definitive. "He doesn't even take notes," Maines recalled. "He listens with his eyes closed, presses 'pause' and then says, 'You need another chorus,' or 'There isn't enough of a bridge.' He's really precise, and you go back to work." In the early Metallica sessions, Rubin has been exacting about different drum sounds. "Lars" Ulrich, the drummer "will play two things for me, and I'll say, 'This one is great and that one is terrible,' " Rubin recalled. "Lars will say: 'How do you know? They both sound good to me.' Well, I just know. The right sound reaches its hand out and finds its way. So much of what I do is just being present and listening for that right sound." Metallica is putting its final touches on their latest album, expected to be on shelfs in February of 2008, promising a more heavier and distinct 80's Metallica sound. Rubin is expected to deliver again.

After hearing and seeing the way they played the Bridge School Benefit makes me even more pumped up about this album. Proof: taking songs like Disposeable Heros and All Within My Hands and making them sound entirely different. More proof: The Ecstacy of Gold they released not long ago and the way they played on tour not long ago. The wait is a long one, but I think we'll be rewarded, friends.
Questions about Lars' drum kit on the BSB gig, what was his bass drum set up? I've never seen that before...take a closer look if you're not aware of it. Let me know if you can. I had a drum set, but I've never seen anything like that set up. Please be easy on me, guys!

so when a journalist asks metallica "whats it like working with rick rubin?" and all the st anger questions does he think hes getting the scoop or does he realize that 964 other interviewers asked the same fucking question and that hes a complete tool.

UGH where is this album...? I wonder when we will hear the "single" or get a release date? I have come to the conclusion that I will not listen to ANY NEW Metallica other than the single until I buy the CD myself. If it wasn't for the Packers 8-1 start I would b going through huge Metallica with-drawls... get that album out boyz!

Well, IS is staying... although I'm still not completely satisfied with some of the answers I received from our webhost, I've opted to the pay the money needed and continue dealing with the screwed up circumstances that led to these problems to begin with...
Please click some of the advertising on the site (the Google ads... we make nothing from Banditems). Although, to be honest, I haven't seen a dime from the Google ads either....

While waiting the new album i have to say that i'm listening none stop 3 albums : Walking the fallen - Avenge sevenfold, a mix a Children of bodom and Ascendency of Trivum. After reading the comments of Xino i think last week i bought a few days ago the first album of Serj Tankian. It's pretty good thou he could have work a little more on lyrics, it gets realy repetitive after a while but i'm weaking up every morning since with one of his song and can't get rid of it until i'm listening to something else at work!
Posted by Bleeding @ 11/14/2007 10:05 PM EST
By the way, someone talked about a Load demos, i've 2 Cds of demos and cool stuff. One contains stuff from loads, the other many demos of the black album and rare ones of AJFA. I'll try to open my FTP this (new ISP is blocking port 21 and 23)weekend and post the link if you are interested in those cds!

Avenged Sevenfold is possibly the worst band to ever grace the earth. Hinder is a close second. No offense to anyone who likes them though... but they are bad... really bad.
Posted by DuManchu @ 11/15/2007 02:25 PM EST
I was never an Avenged Sevenfold fan either, but I do have to say that their last album isn't that bad at all.
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 11/15/2007 07:14 PM EST
I can understand maybe not liking the vocal style in Avenged Sevenfold, but I like them, they aren't great but they aren't bad either. Dave Mustaine's voice is much much worse. Avenged rocks live.
Posted by Blaster of Muppets @ 11/15/2007 08:39 PM EST
I don't like any Avenge sevenfold other albums. In fact i never liked them but a friend gave me his copy of walking the fallen and for many reasons i think it's a great album. I really liked guitars (i'm a guitar player) and as i was begining learning drums, i found that their stuff sounded good and seemed accessible (and it was!). I think there is some great music on that album. I'm listening to everything anyway except Megadeath
Posted by Bleeding @ 11/15/2007 09:45 PM EST
went to the Chris Cornell show on Wed. here in nashville. Pretty damn good. Played a lot of Soundgarden and Audioslave. Highly recommended. He still puts on a great show. Too bad there is never going to be a SOundgarden reunion. Too bad there are no new bands coming out these days. Just a bunch of lolli-pop rock. Junk.
Posted by The General @ 11/16/2007 11:21 AM EST
For me, the problem with Avenged Sevenfold is that I like parts of a lot of their songs, but pretty much every song(except one of the singles from the last album, can't remember the name) has a part, or a few parts, that I don't care for. The vocals don't bother me at all. I've been stuck on an old Van Halen kick since going to the concert last week. I was lucky enough to find a bootleg copy of it already.
Posted by kurt @ 11/16/2007 04:42 PM EST
A little bit of a different animal, but I can't stop listening to Chevelle's Vena Sera. I can't find my St Anger CD, but luckily, I have it on my computer that I can make a copy of.

So if February is in fact the date the new album will be released, it would seem to me that we'll start hearing some confirmed info (such as album title and release date) within the next few weeks. Certainly, by Christmas. Again, that's if the album is coming out in February.
I saw Bruce Springsteen in concert last week. Good week, but what it really brought up was that's it been over three years since I've seen Metallica. I need my Metallica live fix.

I think we will hear a new song before 3 months... the single is always out early, at least a month. But I think it's going to be a while b4 we hear anything. After all it was just Thanksgiving.
Posted by Nick @ 11/23/2007 02:55 PM EST
just read on another site that there is a new pic on the Metallica Fan Club website. Apparently has a picture of the band standing with a surfer holding a surfboard that's on fire. Kinda a neat looking pic, but nothing overly special. Just makes me realize they aren't rushing this album for anything if they are out screwing around with surfers!
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 11/23/2007 05:07 PM EST
Hmm, maybe the surfer pic thing is the new album cover, lol. Hey, you never know with these guys.
It's going to feel like a dream when we finally get a release date and a single. Honestly it has been so long it's like it is all make believe lol... idk how to explain it lol!

I know it's been almost 5 years since St Anger, but to me, it really doesn't seem that long. The guys still stay busy & they constantly tour. I still remember going to Met's official site and seeing the animated fist coming down to announce that St Anger was out. I do hope we hear some news about the new album soon. I would guess we might hear something within a month, but who knows.
Does anyone have both shows from the Bridge Benefit? If so, any certain night preferred over the other?
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 11/27/2007 09:31 AM EST
i got the second show cause it had Unforgiven, then I wanted to hear Turn the page, so I downloaded the 1st show. Then I made a master CD with all the songs on there, and all was good. Yeah where is the update with SOMETHING new. NO news is the norm, but its about time we hear something. Album title would be nice.
Posted by The General @ 11/27/2007 10:51 AM EST
Got both shows, no real preference. For me, it does seem like a pretty damn long time between records. I completely understand where they are in life, however you gotta throw the fans a bone in between. A DVD of the last tour, or the presidio tunes or something. Another five years between records, after stating they wouldn't ever take that long between records, seems a bit much. That said, I hope/think this next record is gonna be a monster.
Posted by kurt @ 11/27/2007 01:49 PM EST
I think what they are doing is waiting till they are confident they have a set date for release. I feel they think if people hear another studio update saying "finishing up vox" or something like that would be unacceptable to most. I think you would have to agree with that assumption? I mean I would be pretty irritated if that happened. I want real information, maybe a release date for the single even would b nice.

As much as I hate to plug Blabbermouth, here's something interesting:
I read that article about the new single being on Rock Band video game, but I thought that was already out on Xbox or something?
Or is there another version of the game coming out soon?
Posted by manguy @ 11/28/2007 08:29 AM EST
I think the way Rock Band works is that you can download tracks directly into the game. That way, you're not stuck with playing the same tracks over and over. But I could be wrong.

Perhaps they are being purposefully secretive this time, about as much as possible. I wasn't into Metallica in 1986 (was too young), but it could be that there was no mainstream news leading up to the release of Puppets either and they want to go back to that same idea of keeping it on the down-low. I mean, they don't even have much studio updates for the fanclub members!! Just a few pics here and there. Its like they are jsut going to drop this massive bomb on us out of nowhere one of these days. Not sure, just speculating.

This might a complete bullshit, but I thought I would post this anyway.
No, that news was out about a week ago $trangeR. not sure if anyone else posted it or not. but the "rumor" is that the new single will be able to be downloaded and played on the Rockband game. But that still doesn't tell us how long before the new single will even come out!!!

The next issue of Guitar World magazine will feature an interview with Kirk Hammett plus a sneak preview of the new album from Metallica. Preview of the CD-Rom video can be seen at GuitarWorld.com. The issue hits newsstands December 18th.

I would like to know if that is true what NEWSMAN was saying, because I just went on Metallica.com and it doesn't have anything about that....
Posted by Nick @ 12/06/2007 12:44 PM EST
Take that back, you can find the info on guitarworld.com ...maybe they plan to just pounce on us out of know where? That's what it sounds like. But if the album is out in Feb. like they say, then the single would have or should b out pretty soon. Usually they leave singles on the air waves for at least a month before release.
Posted by Nick @ 12/06/2007 12:48 PM EST
If that report is ture, I'm a little disappointed. They've done the festival circuit in Europe for the last three years. They need to throw us in the states a bone. Well, I guess there's no reason they can't do both, and that's probably what they'll do. I'm just itching for some more concrete info regarding the new album and a possible tour.
BTW, speaking of festivals, there's those Bonnaroo rumors involving Metallica and Led Zeppelin that have been deemed "inaccurate."

i got it from 4horsemensite.com, im pretty sure its true
Wouldn't get too excited about it, I doubt there'll be anything in that interview that hasn't already been said.
Also: I doubt very much they'll spring the album on us, Metallica might be up for it but I'm sure their label would want to get a lot of publicity going before they release the album- Metallica are a big name and the label will want to capitalize.
Posted by Caspian @ 12/07/2007 12:22 AM EST
i just find out who the other nominees are, i just dont think they have a chance against satch or vai, if they do win, you'll realize that the people who votes just look for "names" well known bands...

well considering jethro tull beat out metallica for "one" //also funny how they have orion and to live is to die and the call of ktulu and they would win for a cool yet simple cover with 2 guitar layers. so this guitarworld is it a cd rom preview of the song ?
METALLICA Frontman On Upcoming Album: 'We Don't Want Pretty Good, We Want Excellent' - Dec. 7, 2007 In the latest issue of the METALLICA Club (the group's official fan club) members-only magazine "So What!" METALLICA's James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich offer more insight into the songwriting process for the group's forthcoming album. "We don't want pretty good, we want excellent and [producer] Rick Rubin is getting us to try and achieve that," Hetfield is quoted as saying. "He's [Rick] very good at getting the essence of an artist out and bringing that back to the top again. It's the 'Master of Puppets' mentality again. You need to prove the world that you're good, you need to be hungry again you need to [put on] a showcase that says, 'Here we are, just like the first time we did it.'"
Added Hammett: "It's about doing the best that you possibly can. I have difficulty wading through all the ideas because I'm biased I think everything we do has a lot of merit to it. In that regard Rick Rubin is great because he will just say, 'Such and such a part is not good, so come up with something else.' He just leaves the problem up to us and we just solve it between ourselves without too much interference from his side, which is completely different from [longtime METALLICA producer] Bob Rock whose musical thinking would permeate the record. Rick Rubin leaves a lot of the musical problem solving to ourselves, which keeps it more pure."
Lars commented: "A lot of the work we did after the band nearly broke up [during the making of 2003's 'St. Anger'] was not going to be so evident on the record we made at the time, but more evident on the next record, which is the one werι making now. This has been a much more enjoyable experience, much more fun, creatively stimulating and working with Rick is helping a lot."
Ulrich told Examiner.com in October that the band's upcoming album will be "heavier" yet more "melodic" than "St. Anger". Ulrich explained, "Whereas 'St. Anger' was an exercise in over-pummeling the listener, these new songs echo some of our stuff from the '80s long, epic journeys through different musical landscapes, heavier, but a lot more melodic." When asked whether the new songs will be shorter, in the four-to-five minute range, Ulrich said, "Well, the most of the intros are four to five minutes. I don't know METALLICA and short songs just don't go that well together."
The new METALLICA album is tentatively due in the SPRING.

They need to do what they did with the Black album---set a release date and just bust there asses to get it done in time. Lets face it-from a business perspective, they've aready missed one opportunity (Christmas Shopping Season). As more and more time passes and the record industry continues further into its downward spiral--they stand to lose more $$$ as more time passes. From a creative point of view--if they have no deadline, they have no way to structure their work schedule. They need a target to work towards. As Lars once said of setting the Black Album's release date, it will force them to create music with their gut instinct instead of over-thinking things. I hope that with the scheduling of the new shows that they have a target and just havn't made it known to us. I thought the Bridge show would hold me over , but the wait is becoming a little unbearable even for a patient person like myself.
Posted by EET FUK @ 12/08/2007 06:01 PM EST
I agree with EET. The only thing Ican thnk of is that when they were doing the black album, they diod not have families. Now older with families, it's hard for them to go balls out and write and record at a fast pace. As much as I wish they'd work on this album like they did with the black, you gotta realize that it's been 16 years since then and unfortunately things are a lot different. I wish they were sticking with the Feb release date, cuz now I'm going nuts, but if it's gonna be a classic fucking killer album, then a coupla more months is ok. Loosk like setting a release date did not push them in finalizing the album at all if reports are true of a spring release. I wish they release it in March (if not Feb) because my b-day is in march and I couldn't think of a better b-day gift than they boys' new cd!!!
Posted by MONSTER @ 12/08/2007 09:26 PM EST
its simple why its taking so long ..they thought the 2 new songs were good. "this is a song from the new album" its like your mom picking out your school clothes ..she thinks shes doing a great job until she shows you and that ugly shirt is new song number 1 and 2.
Posted by sean @ 12/09/2007 02:46 PM EST
i actullay agree with sean, they lost something along the ride...but no one close to the band ever told 'em until rick came aboard, and i appreciate that, hope the door is not close for bob to come back in the future though...
Posted by xino @ 12/09/2007 03:53 PM EST
Was listening to my local radio station, they are doing a Whole Lotta Zepplin weekend cause of the concert Zep is doing this weekend. But inbetween the songs the DJ mentions that it came from a very reliable source that Metallica managment has been talking to Zepplin's managment for a possible show. He already mentioned they are not doing that Bonaroo festival thing, but they are defenetly in talks.
Now seriously, how awesome could this be? A Metallica and Zepplin show??????
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 12/09/2007 05:55 PM EST
NCNG, that would be awewsome. I definitely got to see that showno matter what!! yeah xino, thy did lose soemthing but that's natural. Ad it would be cool f they brought back Bob in the future before the boys hang it up.........but in the very very distant future!!
Posted by MONSTER @ 12/09/2007 06:23 PM EST
as far as I'm concerned, they can shelve Bob forever. Hasn't he been around/ruined them enough? I think he tarnished them on the last few records. I watched the fan can video and Slob was on bass and he looked like a fish out of water, and sounded like one too.Bring Newstead back if anything. Now Metallica and Led Zeppelin on the same bill, damn that would be a hellava show. WHo would headline? Maybe The Boys could dress up like Page and Plant like they did a few years back. ----- I totally agree with the HQ comment. Having no deadline means they can just fart around as much as they want, change release dates, and do whatever. Now Rubin might be telling them to not overthink things and just make it powerful record and leave it. And management might be telling them the same thing, hopefully. Guess we don't know till its official.
Posted by The General @ 12/10/2007 09:15 AM EST
You guys have no idea, just spend the $20 on the cd, and go check them out live a few times, and that's as far as it goes for you.
Leave it up to the professionals to decide how they will continue a successful ride.
If they listened to any of you they'd be broke.

According to RollingStone.com, the 1991 multi-platinum LP "The Black Album" was the last METALLICA disc recorded outside their cozy confines in the Bay Area. With that in mind, producer Rick Rubin encouraged the guys to lay down new tracks in L.A. "Rick thought it'd be beneficial for the gang to get out of the comfort zone of our back yards," drummer Lars Ulrich tells RollingStone.com. "We've been tripping up and down to L.A. since April, and the results have been better than good." As of Thanksgiving, the only hurdles left are overdubs and James Hetfield's vocals. "That's it," says Ulrich. "We're very alive and well."

Man, even the board is slow. I hope MetallicA plays the Superbowl someday. They won't be doing it this year, however. Here's the Jammin' version of One for you-enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucMs9opqCtY

What will Metallica use for their logo? Old, load, St.Anger style? I really love the Old metallica logo, but I think they will go with the S.t anger, since it has been on only one album. Atleast give us scary guy, and some PushHead art for preview. Did not like the S.tAnger paper cover album. but st.anger songs were great
Posted by bond @ 12/13/2007 08:53 PM EST
I hated the St. Anger cover, it was idk... just not Metallica. PushHead art for the cover would b the shit though.
Posted by Nick @ 12/13/2007 11:21 PM EST
St Anger cover was Pushead....
Posted by Mark @ 12/14/2007 01:21 AM EST
Yeah, but it wasn't the typical look, idk if anyone knows what i mean??? when i think of them i don't think of the st. anger cover. it's different, idk if people get what i am sayin!? lol
Posted by Nick @ 12/14/2007 02:35 AM EST
Well, speaking of the logo, I was just on the metclub page and they have a few pics of one of their tech guys spray painting the Metallica logo on what appears to be tour gear cases. It is the OLD school logo....
Posted by manguy @ 12/14/2007 08:48 AM EST
I don't like Pushead really. He's talented and creative and all that but not a fan of his stuff. All the skulls and gothic stuff... too cheesy for a metal album... to cliche.
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 12/14/2007 08:58 AM EST
well since this new album is suppose to be the record that was recorded between TBA and ...Justice (with shades of MOP) then hopefully they will use some variation of the old school MetallciA logo. I like the RTL and MOP logo the best, but the KEA logo is classic.
Posted by The General @ 12/14/2007 10:05 AM EST
....."Metallica - The White Album"
Posted by Nick @ 12/14/2007 11:15 AM EST
hey manguy they've always had the old logos for the touring cases...
Posted by xino @ 12/14/2007 12:58 PM EST
I get your drift on st. anger cover, it was out of the ordinary for metallica, but then again we are talking about the band who used a picture of blood and semen for an album cover, so nothing can really be too out of the ordinary compared to that.
Posted by Robert @ 12/14/2007 01:40 PM EST
MetallicA always likes to shock us and throw us some change-ups; They've always been this way. I like the angel on the inside cover of St Anger better than the fist. Remember the shock from seeing the guys in makeup from Load?
In other Metallica related comments, I listened to Frayed Ends of Sanity for the first time in a while at lunch today and man, that solo really rips.
Posted by The thing that should not be @ 12/14/2007 04:43 PM EST
TTTSNB, that angel on the inside was cool as hell. Would probably make a cool tattoo and would have liked for that to be the cover of st. anger. And, Nick, they should name it the white album or just have a clear piece of plastic with the old logo as the cover
Posted by MONSTER @ 12/14/2007 06:04 PM EST
Metallica will defenelty have something else tha comes with the album though. They had the DVD of Rehersals for St. Anger, wonder what they would do for this one?
My wish? A 5.1 DVD Audio of the album to listen on your home theater system. I have the Black album as DVD Audio and it blows my minds listening to it on that.
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 12/14/2007 07:31 PM EST
St. Angers cover sucked, the inside art was WAY better.
Posted by Nick @ 12/14/2007 08:36 PM EST
My st.anger cd cover is tearing up, i really liked the old plastic cover cd's because they seem to last longer. I will probalby buy the Black Album DVD since it has the 5.1 surround quallity.
Posted by bond @ 12/14/2007 09:30 PM EST
I am a fan of the old school logo as well. Speaking of old school, i have been really digging "...And Justice For All" again lately. The entire song is nothing but ass kicking music. I hope they play it live again since they did this past overseas tour and seemed to have enjoyed playing it.
Well, next year will be the 20th anniversary of Justice. Would they pull a full album tribute like they did for Puppets?
Posted by manguy @ 12/15/2007 10:36 AM EST
Nope, maybe rare tracks from it, but I highly doubt it. Those songs are too long to play the whole thing compared to Master. Hetfield even said himself playing them live was brutal.
Posted by Nick @ 12/15/2007 01:59 PM EST
I agree that the songs are long but I think metallica want to play long songs in order to "rest" James' voice through the show.I think that was the reason why they put Justice & Orion i on their setlist
Posted by Jesius @ 12/15/2007 06:00 PM EST
Given that next year's shows will be in support of the new album, I can't imagine them doing one of the other albums in full. The question I'm wondering is if they'll have the confidence in this new stuff to play more than two songs like they did during most the of the St. Anger tour.
Posted by Trace @ 12/15/2007 07:59 PM EST
Rest James voice? I'm sorry but what? lol No, they played them cause everyone has been wanting them too.
Are you being serious? They are jamming on some Sabbath.

The guitar world mag didn't say anything new at all. They shouldn't get to say "sneak preview" at all, because it wasn't. I just hope it's released prior to these tour dates they are announcing(or at least finished and a release date while they are on tour).

it bugs me that they are already posting tourdates, even more that they are european dates, dont get me wrong i know that playing europe is better for a lot of bands, the crowds there are crazy, where the hell are the american tourdates?? i mean what are we gonna see them once every 5 years now?? not fair...end of rant
Posted by xino @ 12/19/2007 10:24 AM EST
Yeah I agree, just about tired of them touring all over Europe. They haven't toured the states since 04 but have been across the pond what, 3 times? I wish they would tour the states first, but of course that is not going to happen. SO in Europe for the summer and probably not be anywhere near TN till 2009, MAYBE late 2008. Sux.
Posted by The General @ 12/20/2007 09:15 AM EST
Wow, it's been a long time since I visited this site. I used to visit daily since 1998, up until probably a little over a year ago. It's nice to see some constructive criticism about the band taking so damn long. People get kicked while they're down for doing that on the metclub boards. I mean, sure it does almost get to the point of beating a dead horse, but I'm sure most of us are a little more than anxious to hear some new tunes.
Some people have even said that Metallica should consider releasing an EP every year with a few songs on it, just so we don't have to wait so long. I'd be up for that, and it wouldn't be that hard for them to do.
Posted by Chris @ 12/20/2007 04:03 PM EST
I would just hope that with all the tour dates being announced that they would give us a vague idea whether or not the record is coming out before that, during, or after. Jesus, they gotta be wrapping it up by now, if over a month ago all they had was some overdubs and vocals left to do.
Posted by kurt @ 12/20/2007 04:09 PM EST
Just a hunch...but it could be possible that the boys may make a huge announcement on or right before Christmas Day regarding the album title and release date---Kind of a present for us fans. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.

A'course its also the show where Hetfield says ........"if you came here to see spandex, eye makeup and the words rock and roll baby in every fucking song, THIS AINT THE FUCKIN BAND!" ....... Classic!
Posted by The General @ 12/21/2007 09:39 AM EST
I really can't see them doing any type of big tour dates like this until after the album is released. So at this point I'm thinking we'll get some kind of announcement from them in January regarding the new album and probably whatever they decide to do in North America next summer after the European dates. They won't announce before then because they'll want as much press as they can get for that and that isn't going to happen at any point in the next few weeks.
Posted by Trace @ 12/21/2007 03:21 PM EST
According to a Norwegian newspaper (dated Decemeber 12th, 2007), Metallica has been rumored to have refused to do anymore shows in Europe past their present June tour dates, so they can begin a summer tour in the US for the new record in 2008
Posted by Tipper @ 12/22/2007 01:51 PM EST
If they take time off to do another European tour and delay the release of the record again my feelings may be hurt.
Posted by Marcus @ 12/22/2007 06:35 PM EST
Well, I think they owe the Americas a great big tour before they venture overseas. I can't wait for the new album, whenever it's coming out. I think it'll be a change in direction for the better. And I'll keep holding my breath out for an instrumental track.

Don't we have festivals here in the states that they could headline? Still can't believe we haven't heard ANYTHING from HQ regarding release or singles or titles, nothing. According to Undercover News, METALLICA's self-titled album from 1991 (also known as the "black" album) is the No. 2 top-selling album of the SoundScan era. The LP shifted 258,000 units in the U.S. in 2007 to bring total sales to 15,077,000 and closing the gap to the No. 1 album on the list, SHANIA TWAIN's "Come On Over", by 372,000 units. If these percentages keep up, "Metallica" will overtake "Come On Over" during 2009.
The Top 10 albums of the SoundScan era as of close of business 2007 are:

Yeah, the boys are super quiet right now. I'm thinking they'll be back to work soon-prob. took some time off to be with the family for the holidays. I'm guessing the new album won't be out until Spring or so. I would hope it would be out by Spring, since they'll be over in Europe soon for another tour. I can't wait to see 'em here back in the USA. I remember reading somewhere that Lars said the USA will not be neglected. I'm itchin' to see them live again-nothing like it!

I'm guessing there will be an announcement made this month. Probably looking at a June release at the latest. With the record finished (or almost finished?) it looks like it would be a quick delivery to store shelves... I think it normally would be, but you're talking about one of the biggest bands in history. No way they're just going to secretly put an album out without some big hoopla. I don't see a February release as feasible anymore.
Give me some song names, artwork, album info... something Damnit!

theres some news from http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=88052 so it says---This stuff is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," he said. "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes. It's pretty different from 'St. Anger', and it's pretty different from the 'Load' stuff. This stuff is not the one-dimensional punch in the face that 'St. Anger' was. This is probably a little more like those couple of albums back there in the decade that begins with an '8.'"
When asked if the material represents a return to the "old school," Lars replied, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the fuck? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me. It's been no secret that Rick [Rubin, producer] suggested to us that we use a couple of those records as reference points that we spend some time kind of accessing that headspace. So when we would come to forks in the road, sometimes the exercise became, 'What would we have done at this point in 1985?'" i was hoping for a date , but really i dont care (hahaha im getting crazy) salud
Posted by kotrinio @ 01/09/2008 01:40 AM EST

By now I would have thought there would be some Metallica rumors going around. But I guess there is so little going on that even rumors have no place in this crazy world.
Posted by Bond @ 01/10/2008 04:35 PM EST
So, I was listening to mandatory metallica last night, and they played a new song. The new song was called 13 (still untitled obviously). They said that an unitentifed man wearing a black ski mask, and black metallica shirt, and some james hetfield styled wrist bands, and for some dumb reason, he was also wearing a skirt, ran into the studio and stole the song right out of the hands of Phil. (Phil is the 85 year old security guard who stands and the front door of the studio). Anyway, the song was very fast, with two crazy ass guitar solo's. The intro sounded like it had 17 guitars, it was pretty damn crazy. He also said that he read somewhere in the studio that the album was going to be called "Kill the Lightning Master for Justice". Pretty fraking crazy.
How is that for a rumor?? I thought it was kinda stupid, but hey, no news in metallica land is kinda makeing me crazy.
Posted by Robert @ 01/10/2008 08:13 PM EST
in his new book slash mentions hetfield, theres a story about both of them in a hotel room...haven't read the book yet but apparently it involves slash coming into james doing several women or something like that....and i was listening to an interview of mike portnoy (dream theater) and he sauid that james was invited to do some guest appearance (vocals) but never did it...it was supposed to be for the song repentance....( a lot of ex-alcoholics musicians appeared on that track)
Posted by xino @ 01/10/2008 10:17 PM EST
I was at the book store a few months ago and saw Slash's book. I thumbed through it till I got to the early 90's section as I knew there would be some Metallica tidbits. So I scanned for the word Metallica forever and finally found some. Slash had some cool things to say about Hetfield. He was basically saying how much respect he had for him and how embarassed he was when Axl was acting like a bitch. Like in Montreal when Axl walked off the stage after the roasting, and the next time GnR were around The Boys at the next tour stop, Slash couldn't look Hetfield in the eye. Just shows how powerful Metallica are/is. Damn where's the new album? JD how bout bringing back the Rumor Mill? jk

I wish they would call the new album Metal Up Your Ass... especially if it's got an old-school feel to it. I know that was basically Kill 'Em All's original title... but something "in your face" like that would be cool with me.
METAL UP YOUR ASS!!!

The new So What magazine is supposed to contain a "round-table" interview and was shipped out this week. However, no one has got it yet. Only one guy said he got it like 2 days ago and he's full of shit. No one else has got it. Anyone in the Metclub expecting this magazine to arrive any day now?

it's amazing how you can type your thoughts in an articulate manner but not be able to read...
Posted by Blaster of Muppets @ 01/12/2008 03:25 PM EST
truly amazing. Just googled "how to read" and figured it out. This lack of new metallica is making me delirious.
Posted by The General @ 01/12/2008 07:30 PM EST
I imagine this new album will have some RIPPING solos! I can't imagine Kirk not putting down some awesome material, since he hasn't had a solo on an entire record since 1997!!
11 years.... wow. I'll bet this new material is going to kick my ass. I probably won't be ready for it, even if it is delayed until May/June!!
Metallica in 2008!!

Caught a band called Unexpect last night... was interesting. Moments of brilliance with flashes of idiocy.
I'm gonna try to sum up the latest news and tourdates and stuff on Tuesday.

In the official site has this commentary about the Lisbon concert so....they talking about a "pequena caminhada de vera" which means a little walk in summer so maybe the new album will go after this little walk i think ...its a long long time...well until then i have exodus last album making my day ...

Me will not believe that!! Spring release baby! C'mon!

OK,I got the So What. The round table discussions usually get you some really in depth, behind the scenes stuff(which is the primary reason I joined the club).
Unfortunately the didn't tell Chirazi anything. They said they are working hard on it. They said they all want it to be great. They said they want to finish 14 songs and pick the best ones for the record. They said they aren't writing necessarily for the IPOD purchases. When asked when, two answers came up: "when it's done" and "2008".
Granted, that may have been being a smartass, but I think that all pretty much sucked. They basically said(interview conducted in october) that those anxiously counting the days better have lots of digits to count on. I thought it was a shitass attitude and they should not have done the "round table" if they weren't gonna talk about anything. Basically, the few snippets you've already seen on the net is all they said.
I love this band. I will go see them next time they come around. And I will be at best buy the Tuesday this CD is released. I defended them through all the bashing(loads, napster, haircuts, st. anger, therapists), but for the first time, I feel like they are taking us for granted. I understand wanting to make the perfect record, but that interview was bullshit.

Metallica's ninth record production is on the verge of seeing the light, there declared the drummer of the band, Lars Ulrich, who confirmed that the name that will take the album will be "Nutty" and will be in the buffets to half of this year. Ulrich affirmed that for "Nutty" they had to resort to his works realized during the beginnings of the band in the decade of the 80s, since the producer of the album, Rick Rubin, suggested to use resources of these years to return to a classic sound of the metal, for what the band all the time wondered " that we would do if we were in 1985?
Posted by fnm @ 01/15/2008 11:32 AM EST
I bet the new album name is "Killride the Master of Justice" and have 5 songs, each over 10 minutes. "The Four Blackened Lepers", "One Trapped Battery", "Welcome, Phantom Harvester", "The Shortest Horsemen", and "Evil Disposable Straw". There you have it folks, you heard it here first. :D
Posted by DuManchu @ 01/15/2008 03:07 PM EST
naah that's all wrong. I heard the album is titled "Kill St. Justice's Angry Load" and will feature a 38 minute ballad named "Unforgiven 3 through 8", other tracks include "One Leaf Messiah Harvester" and "Shortest Leper Outlaw" which will be the first single released simultaneously on Rock Band and unspecified sections of Mars. The album is due out tentatively by summer 2088, possibly becoming the band's first posthumous release. Only the vocals need to be dubbed, then overdubbed, and then overdubbed on the previous overdub, so that the end result will sound similar to listening to Alice in Chains from the bottom of a well that is actually inside of a larger well. Rick Rubin is filling in on keyboard and cowbell as a result of Phil Towle's unexpected departure from the band for undisclosed medical reasons involving epileptic seizures caused by wearing awful sweater patterns.
Posted by Blaster of Muppets @ 01/15/2008 07:37 PM EST
I'm getting anxious about the release of the new album, too. I guess we've waited this long...it's not like it's Chinese Democracy from Axl & Co.
On a side note, my only (minor)complaint about MetallicA lately is that they need to tour the USA more. I want to see a Summer Sanitarium again or better yet, skip the opening acts and just give us 5 hours of live MetallicA by themselves! Okay, maybe not 5, but 3 or 3.5 hours of them! I wonder if they'll have a listening party at a coliseum like they did for the Black album.

PS: Am I right, are all their recent web posts in another language for everyone else, or do I have some weird browser setting?

Why would they release an album in between tours?! It makes more sense releasing the cd before touring..
Posted by Juztice @ 01/19/2008 05:35 AM EST
there just proving there the worlds laziest band ever now...this should have been done and releasd already. what could they possibly have left to recorded after almost 3 years seeing they started this way back in nov of 05....something isn't adding up here or they didn't start writing and recording till early last year..w/e it is it's BS this is taking so long now
Posted by F*CK @ 01/19/2008 11:32 AM EST
well they are as big as u can get...so yeah they can release the album between tours or after the tour and still shows are gonna sell out....it bugs me but patience is the key folks
Posted by xino @ 01/19/2008 11:49 AM EST
To me, this is shaping up similiar to what they did in 2003. Back then they did a few weeks in Europe at the beginning of June, followed by Summer Sanitarium in North America and then back to Europe for a handful of shows, including Leeds and Reading. So based on that, I'm thinking we're getting some kind of summer North American tour in June/July.
vulturous is like something written on a 1985 huffy bicycle.or a knockoff hasbro toy. thats what is taking so long people..thinking you have 12 songs ready to go and rubin tells you these are fucking horrible get lost and come back with new ones. so its good for us fans instead of saying "what is this shit?" after the album comes out..a 3rd party aka new producer is saying it now. and he still has to work on hetfields vocal melodies and cut out the vocal fills james overuses now. the bad part is james writes lyrics differently now. instead of saying "this train shall come" =metal hes like "this train is a comin'" =not metal/country crap. and he has to motivate lars to use fills and overplay a little more like on justice..AND prolly get kirk away from cheesy blues licks and demonstrate technique and stop hiding behind a shitty wah pedal like an assclown.
its like dressing your parents to fit in with todays young crowd. alot of work to be done BUT rubin is doing it i assure you.give it time.
Posted by sean @ 01/20/2008 12:36 AM EST
Bond, I can't believe you actually would think that could be official. Another bullshit YouTube "leak." Sounds nothing like Lars' drumming. Singer sounds like he should be fronting a cover band.
Posted by Last Son of Krypton @ 01/20/2008 12:39 AM EST

Posted by The General @ 01/20/2008 01:32 AM EST
How to make sure no one notices your silly little song on silly little youtube: Put it on there with your name. How to draw attention to your silly little song on youtube: Put it up and claim it's a leaked Metallica song from the new album. That sounds like a Sacred Reich clone band. Sacred Reich is a clone of Metallica, so I guess I can see how it would be mistaken for Metallica by someone who has no idea what Metallica sounds like.
Posted by Azrael @ 01/20/2008 09:03 AM EST
hey Bond. How's that new asshole?
Posted by Tipper @ 01/20/2008 12:00 PM EST
I heard that six minutes of noise back before St. Anger also, I'm sure of it. Anyone who thinks thats Het on vocals is off their friggin' gourd.
Posted by Blaster of Muppets @ 01/20/2008 03:10 PM EST
Ok, there's a chance he's NOT lip-syncing in that video, but come on. I haven't heard Het sound that good live since 1989.
Posted by DuManchu @ 01/21/2008 10:39 AM EST
The same happened some years ago with songs from Holocaust i think! There was a song called Valley of misery that was sounding like Fade to Black. Many was thinking it was metallica stuff... I guess that Metallica will pay a great attention to tapes this time, knowing what happened with I Disapear.
Speaking of that, they said after the napster thing that Internet could or should be use to promote music in a different way, may be create a new way for marketing this album, knowing Metallica is one of the most popular word typed in internet search engine! They could promote with a 30 seconds leak! This would build a real mania on the WWW, and this would be free...
Posted by Bleeding @ 01/21/2008 12:57 PM EST
James is NOT lip-syncing in that song, I can't even understand why you think he would be?
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 01/21/2008 02:34 PM EST
My god how dumb can you be? I saw that on TV live, that is not synced up at all for one. You ever think of the tone he needed to get for that song? His pitch doesn't change much at all. It's not like that song is hard for him to sing. "Lip-syncing"? PLEASE... god some people are dumb.
Posted by Nick @ 01/21/2008 04:22 PM EST

He is most certainly not lip-syncing. If you have the regular mastered recording of that song, as I do, you would know it's different. He's messing up the words as usual lol! Plus you can see his throat working at the right moments. James doesn't lip-sync, although if he did for a CMT appearance it wouldve amused me slightly.
Posted by Blaster of Muppets @ 01/21/2008 04:23 PM EST
What was that song for ? When did he sing it ?
Posted by $trangeR @ 01/21/2008 06:09 PM EST
James did not lip-synch on that song. James made a cover of that song and released it in 2003 (I think). He and Waylon Jennings were friends. I also have that performance on tape somewhere and also bought the CD for that song. I believe I also read in a magazine that James and Waylon were together somewhere and James got pissed off at something and Waylon mentioned James wasted all his hate for nothing, which is where the title "Wasting My Hate" came from on Load. On a side note, Metallica Europe dates: http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=600614
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 01/21/2008 06:35 PM EST
If I remember correctly, I think Het used his clout to have Waylon added to the Lollapalooza tour roster back in '96 when Metaliica headlined.
Posted by EET FUK @ 01/21/2008 09:48 PM EST
just another reason why Hetfield is The Master. He doesn't have to lip-sync, he's just that badass. It's cool to hear stories about Waylon and JH. But hopefully no country on the new record. Where's an update?
Posted by The General @ 01/21/2008 10:04 PM EST
Here's what I found about the title Wasting My Hate from encycmet.com: The reason for "Wasting My Hate": "Wasting My Hate" was a line that James got from his buddy Waylon Jennings who was sitting somewhere in a diner, and there was another guy outside in a car staring at him. So Waylon stared back with hate, and when he finally had had enough he went out to talk to the guy in the car, only to find out that he was sleeping. So he thought "Oh man I've wasted my hate on this guy". He told James the full story and James liked the line so much that he used it for writing a song about it. I guess I was a little off. I remember reading about James' dad being a fan of Waylon's music. I hope we get to hear some acoustic entries a la Battery or some acoustic in general.

No album until September. Sorry guys... that's the rumor on blabbermouth.net. Whatever you guys think of that sight, when it comes to stuff like that, it's usually true
Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 01/22/2008 11:42 AM EST
That explains why that summer tour is called "Vacation Tour".
DAMNIT DAMNIT DAMNIT!
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 01/22/2008 11:44 AM EST
They dont bloody deserve a "vacation" if the album is only going to be released in September ! I know they want it to be perfect, but fcuk me hard, spend 2,5 years just putting 14 songs together from already recorded material during tours... for fcuk sake, it's approx 65 day per song...
I only pray that the rumors are wrong...
Posted by $trangeR @ 01/22/2008 02:28 PM EST
Fucking bullshit A) if they play ANY more live dates before that record is done and B) that they are playing more overseas dates than in the US. My drop down, absolute favorite band, bar none, is pissing me the fuck off.
Posted by kurt @ 01/22/2008 03:15 PM EST
Let's all hope that these rumors are BS and they only reason for these rumors is to make the boys give us an update soon!
Posted by Jesius @ 01/22/2008 03:59 PM EST
Wow, this rumor from BM is such a downer. Why would it take such a long time? Wait another 9 months, thats ridiculous.
okay, officially disapointed now. It would be much easier to take if the boys where working on the album straight through, but the fact they keeping taking this europe tours and just keep postponing the album is pretty damn frustrating. And you know the longer we wait the highter the expectations are gonna be... crappy...
Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 01/22/2008 04:27 PM EST
At least we now know that the title will be "Chinese Democracy"
Posted by Azrael @ 01/22/2008 05:16 PM EST
that last article basicly gives us the same information as the firat one that says the albums gonna be pushed back... this still doesnt seem official to me so it could still be BS!

I read that link last night on the Met board and I thinks it's false. I still think it'll be out in Spring, but you never know w/ these guys.
Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 01/22/2008 06:17 PM EST
If the date is due to september (hope not), we may get a "real" song or two from it on the summer tour...
Posted by Bleeding @ 01/22/2008 07:38 PM EST
Why don't they just F'ing tell us themselves so there isn't so many rumors and what not, seriously.
Posted by Nick @ 01/22/2008 08:01 PM EST
i say cool the jets........until The Boys or the website tells us something official, I wouldn't believe a thing. Or did the blabbermouth rumor page also say the album is called waiting in the wings? Larz is usually good on his word. And for what reason would it take another 5-6 months to finish the album? Rubin came in and told them to scratch everything? not likely. I put money on Larz or the band coming out and addressing these rumors. And I am just about tired of hearing about all these new european dates, no offense, but the US is a pretty good place to play and we can pack the house.
Posted by The General @ 01/22/2008 09:17 PM EST
Spring is seeming more and more unlikely. Obviously their label will want to market the release as much as possible- and the marketing campaign will be over a couple of months, at least. Summer is possible, but september is more likely.
And yeah, this is really annoying me. If this album isn't totally excellent I'm going to be really annoyed.
Posted by caspian @ 01/22/2008 09:20 PM EST
This is a blow, I really thought early 2008 would bring some great music, but IF it will be September it will be a total waste of time to wait for a Metallica album. Master of Puppets took them less then 4 months to produce. 6 Years till the next studio album? come on!!
Posted by Bond @ 01/22/2008 09:49 PM EST
We'll see what happens, but I still think everything is pointing to a late May/early June release. Hopefully we get some kind of official word soon one way or the other.
