09/08/2007 Entry: "BRIDGES & PORCHES"

The rumors were true: Metallica's headed back to school. On October 27 & 28th, Metallica will be playing the Bridge School Benefit concert. This is the 21st annual Bridge School show put together by Neil Young; the Bridge School is a non-profit organization assisting individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities and is an internationally recognized leader in the education of children who use augmentative and alternative communication. Metallica previously played the Bridge School shows in 1997.

Over the last couple of years, Tony Smith and BANDitems has offered some pretty unique Metallica items. Now he's offering Kirk Hammett's 1989 Porsche 911... of that, Tony says:

"There is an interesting piece of Metallica history involving this car. "THE BET" In 1991 shortly before the release of the eponymous Metallica album (known as the Black Album) Kirk and Tour Manager Tony Smith were on a flight talking about the upcoming album release. Kirk mentioned that he was concerned that it might be a little to different for people to accept. Tony said not to be concerned and that it would probably sell 10 million copies. Kirk responded by saying that if it did sell 10 million copies that he would give Tony his new prized possession Porsche. For a couple of years this became the source of some good natured fun and teasing beween the band members and Tony. A few years later, while the band was touring, the Black Album was cetified as 10x platinum (10 million sold in the USA.) By this time the conversation about the Porsche had been mostly forgotten. However, at the end of one leg of the tour, Kirk gave Tony an envelope. Inside were the ownership documents and the keys to his Porsche 911 Carrera 4."

The Porsche is being offered through an alternate eBay account, but Tony assures us it's legit and that BANDitems will return next week with new (more affordable) items.

Cool for Kirk to make good on his word. I wouldn't mind having that car, but since I didn't win the lottery, I'll have to wait.

the inside of kirk's car looks like a 1986 Grand Am, check out that steering wheel. ----- i wonder what the boys are going to play at the Bridge Benefit? hopefully something saucy.

I hope they do Low Man's Lyric again, I'd love to hear that song with Rob playing.

Posted by Gino @ 09/11/2007 02:04 AM EST

Low Man would be tight as shit!

Posted by Nick @ 09/11/2007 12:36 PM EST

Better yet... how cool would it be if that did Call of the Ktulu!!!!!!

Posted by Nick @ 09/11/2007 12:38 PM EST

Oh yes, Unforgiven 1 + 2!!

Posted by Nick @ 09/11/2007 04:52 PM EST

Anyone check the metallica.com homepage?? Theres a news update that reads, "Test Test", and when you click on the more button, it reads, "This is just a test."...any thoughts??

Posted by N_D @ 09/11/2007 05:07 PM EST

we don't need to hear low mans lyric again. Maybe ktulu or orion. hopefully they won't repeat any of the songs they played last time. what a new song? not hardly.

Posted by The General @ 09/11/2007 05:58 PM EST

How about really old songs like Escape or? or maybe something from the Loads, like Fixxer?

Posted by EPDA @ 09/11/2007 11:59 PM EST

Just read that Aerosmith is looking to record in November with Rubin--maybe the November completion date for Met's new album is a solid date. (?)

yeah, its probably just a test...went to see the used (the suck!) with this girl and my back is killing me...100 bitches moshpitting, i didn;t wanted to hit a girl but they where so friggin strong.....

I'm wondering if the Metallica site is going to be updated soon because they have Test Part II up there right now.

I'd love to hear Fixxxer Live! It would be cool if they did a tour of playing the songs we never hear from the albums like Attitude, Carpe Diem Baby and so on...something other than the staples. I know it would never happen, but it would be different and they might have a cool Live energy, a breath of fresh air.

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 09/12/2007 02:02 PM EST

What do you mean by Test Part II??

Posted by Kirky @ 09/12/2007 05:31 PM EST

yeah some oddities would be cool. anything off the loads. hopefully we'll get about 12-13 songs. damn i need some new tallica news/music. bout time to download another show. any recommendations?

Posted by The General @ 09/12/2007 09:07 PM EST

I think Lars said they have 14 songs recorded, but expect about 9 to show up on the record. Songs are supposed to be the typical 6-8 minutes in length. Man, I'm itchin' for this new album to come out. It's just been so quiet in MetallicA land. I wonder if we'll have a new instrumental. I know James loves Orion, so maybe the'll have some inspiration there for one. Even w/o lyrics, it's an emotional, powerfil song. It would be cool if we heard another instrumental. I'm sure I'll be content without one, though. Anyone else like to hear an instrumental on the new one?

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 09/13/2007 10:03 AM EST

A instrumental song would bring the old Metallica totally back. A "instrumental song" is worth a thousand words, because you could put it so many different meanings.

Posted by Bond @ 09/13/2007 10:36 AM EST

of course i want them to record an instrumental, i doubt they will though....

Posted by xino @ 09/13/2007 03:52 PM EST

Test 1... test part two???? I went to the Metallica site a few times and I haven't seen that up once....

Posted by Nick @ 09/13/2007 04:42 PM EST

Wow, I've been gone for 4 days and when I come back there is NOTHING new about Metallica... this is killing me.

Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 09/17/2007 11:11 AM EST

What have the posters on here been listening to lately? I've been in a different kind of mood lately and have been listening to the new Chevelle a lot. It's a decent CD if no one has checked it out.

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 09/19/2007 10:22 AM EST

The new Chevelle is really good, I have been a fan of those guys for a little while now.

Other stuff I've been listening too? Rise Against and the new Smashing Pumpkins. I'm looking forward to the new Seether coming out next month, the new single Fake It is really cool.

Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 09/19/2007 02:17 PM EST

Haven't checked out Chevelle, but I will. In my car, I have Godsmack: the other side & IV, Load, Garage Days 1 & 2, and a mix. In my other car I have Black Label Society: Hangover music & mafia, Alice in chains: jar of flies & unplugged, kill em all & another mix. Can't wait to have new Metallica in both cars to rock to!!!!!!!!

I feel like an absentee landlord... lots going on in my personal/professional life and haven't had as much time as I'd like.

Sadly, there hasn't been much news...

Musically, I think Linkin Park;s album might be album of the year... although it doesn;t give me the same rush as it did when it first came out. I'm digging Flyleaf and Within Temptation... and been rediscovering CKY.
