03/29/2007 Entry: "BACK TO HQ"

Met Club has posted pics of the band back at HQ for more "tweaking" and "rehearsing" of the new songs. The photos, dated "the week of March 19th" - this (apparently) only a week after the band headed down to Los Angeles to record with Producer Rick Rubin.

This move back to the Bay Area seems to open up a lot of new questions about this recording process - was this planned? do they plan on recording one week at a time? was the band not rehearsed to Rubin's rumored standards (eg Slayer?)? when will this album come out?

It looks like a step back. Hope they don't over do stuff like on the Loads. So what happens when metallica goes on tour this summer. do they have to go another step back. I just wished they stayd home this summer and finish the album by July.

Posted by Bond @ 03/29/2007 12:12 PM EST

That sux! Though, it does give me more hope that whenever they finally release the album it should be good and up to par wth TBA and earlier cuz they sure are self-editing and tweaking enough to merit a well-thought out album. I just wish they were quicker about it. Ah life's compromises. I wish they would give us more pics.

Posted by BLVE ÖYSTER CVLT @ 03/29/2007 12:19 PM EST

Wonder what that is all about? I don't suppose it's a negative thing, or they probably wouldn't be posting it on the website. Maybe Rick had to be somewhere else and they wanted to keep working.

Posted by kurt @ 03/29/2007 02:13 PM EST

My guess is Rubin wanted them to further develop some of the songs. At least, that's kinda what I hope they are doing.

I want Metallica to really push themselves on the new record, I want to be blown away.

Cheers!

what the fuck!

I wish they would clarify what's going on... can anyone send me the link some how??? I'm not part of Met Club yet and I really wanna c what everyone is ranting about..

i think rubin said these arent good enough..back to the drawing board.

Posted by sean @ 03/29/2007 05:12 PM EST

think he gave them a copy of "Chef Aid - The South Park Album" for inspiration?

Posted by The General @ 03/29/2007 05:37 PM EST

This could be a good sign. I can just see the boys playing some half-assed, downtuned blues riff with a few double-bass moments and Hetfield moans. Rubin walks in and screams "back to the drawing board, write some EPIC FUCKING METAL and get back to me!" Don't get me wrong, I love the Loads and St. Anger, but I really want them to blow the metal world up with this one.

Posted by Seth @ 03/29/2007 08:25 PM EST

Forgot to add that I agree with Sean...

Posted by Seth @ 03/29/2007 08:27 PM EST

Proof that they're with the right producer this time...

Posted by Metallicat @ 03/30/2007 12:13 AM EST

I really would like to know for sure what's going on... hopefully some real news pops up from the inside instead of all this speculation.

Posted by Nick @ 03/30/2007 12:40 AM EST

You might be right, Kurt...maybe Rick had to be elsewhere and not only that, maybe Lars and James' kids are on Spring break. Who knows. I'm not worried about it.

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 03/30/2007 01:47 AM EST

I kinda am, idk.. i hope this is a very special album.

Posted by Nick @ 03/30/2007 02:40 AM EST

I agree with Seth. I think it's a good sign though.. At the very least, the songs will have been worked on a lot.

Although it would've been good for the album to be released quicker. Oh well.

Posted by Caspian @ 03/30/2007 04:04 AM EST

Maybe the guys just took the week off from recording because their kids were on spring break. I dont know, but it cant be all that bad, I am sure if somthing did not sound right they would probably fix it in the studio instead of going all the way back to the bay area to fix it.

Posted by Robert @ 03/30/2007 05:17 AM EST

please, a full update now!

hopefully it is metalli-metal they are working on.

rubin probably has something else to do. that would be a bad sign - a producer who has too many projects at the same time.

I MUST BE A KILLER-ALBUM THEY ARE WORKING ON. IT MUST BE!

Posted by santor @ 03/30/2007 09:02 AM EST

they couldn't keep up with the LA party life

Posted by rochester - PUA @ 03/30/2007 12:36 PM EST

I think the sping break thing is a good possibility.

Posted by Nick @ 03/30/2007 12:39 PM EST

A lot of good points from you guys. While it does seem like a step back, it could e a giant leap forward too. I think Metallicat is right.....if they were working with Bob Rock still, they probably would still be in the studio?? Who knows, the spring break thing is probably what it is and we're all reading into the situation too much. I'm confident that this album will be a special one. There's some new blood with Metallica (Rob & Rick) and this change will definitely be a positive one. Next year, I hope they do a Summer Sanitarium with a bunch of metal bands that have been established. Don't get me wrong, new, young metal bands arecool too, but who wouldn't like to see Metallica play with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Label Society, Anthrax and possibly...Megadeth?? haahha...I don't think Dave or 'Tallica would oppose. Personally I think it would be cool if Dave joined them to play 4 Horsemen or Hit the Lights! Whaddaya ya guys think??

Posted by MONSTER @ 03/30/2007 01:51 PM EST

Maybe rehearsing for Sick of the studio? Or maybe heard new Machine Head and decided to throw in some more double guitar harmony shit and play everything twice as fast ;-) We'll see.

Posted by MORE BEER @ 03/30/2007 02:38 PM EST

I really like the new MH record, as well as the first one and Ashes. But the day met needs to take inspiration from them is the day they retire.

Monster, it would be great if fences could be mended enough for them to play a song together, but I don't think that day will ever come.

I agree with nick, the spring break thing probably is it. They went home for the kids, but didn't want to quit working altogether.

Lyric wise what do you guys think is the strongest album? I think Justice takes the lyrics title.........come on, Harvester is brilliant!!!!!

Posted by Russ @ 03/30/2007 11:28 PM EST

Ride the Lighting shows some significant improvement on lyrics. Crepin Death is just bindblowing.

Posted by Bond @ 03/30/2007 11:48 PM EST

the loads are really good lyrics wise, but i'd have to go with justice

Posted by xino @ 03/31/2007 12:40 PM EST

I'd have to say Justice too......second would be Puppets then Black

Posted by MONSTER @ 03/31/2007 12:57 PM EST

lyricwise I think TBA is best, nothing else matters, althouhgt musicwise not that great, contains hetfields best verses to date. a timeless love song!

will the new record be metal? I don´t know. hetfield is so much into hardcore (c.o.c., down...) these days that it is doubtable if he wants to wright pure metal-riffs right now. but: hetfield once said after the release of st. anger that "justice" and TBA are his most fav tallica-albums. so that gives hope!

IT MUST BE METAL! IT MUST BE!

Posted by santor @ 03/31/2007 01:04 PM EST

Saw a pretty good show last night, gents. The Jagermeister Tour... I went especially to see Lacuna Coil (my third time within the last year). They were OK, a little too much focus on their newest album... which has proven to me to be not as strong as Comalies.

I missed Shadow Falls - they're not my thing.

Stone Sour was much better than I expected. I've really come to appreciate Corey Taylor's very distinct voice, the man definitely has a talent. He also has a very strong stage presence (although he needs a shirt). There was a notable lack of lead guitar, but that's the tendency in today's rock world - but the musicianship, overall seemed strong.

I enjoyed Corey's little solo/"acoustic" set with touches of Wicked Game and Sweet Home Alabama sandwiching Bother. Great stuff.

The "nu metal" feeling of some tunes along with Corey's endless screaming at the crowd was a bit tiring, but overall it was a better show than I expected and I could see Stone Sour developing into something bigger.

Posted by IS-JD @ 03/31/2007 01:21 PM EST

Wrong Santor, He said Lightning and The Black Album are his favorites. The fact that it's Metallica will make this a metal album. I bet Rubin told their asses off about the happy go lucky honkey dorey attitude they portrayed after St. Anger and made them fuckin' realize that at one point in time, they were the hardest heaviest band in the land. Listening to Machine Heads The Blackening, it really sounds like the "son of ...and justice for all", and it makes me hope Metallica still has that fire, because I don't know about you guys, but more of their newer live stuff sounds shitty (unless you're there), they haven't sounded that tight, and I'll blame that on Kirk and Lars being a little shitty/lazy at their craft. I hate the soloing on Sad But True any more, and lately it's been sloppy. When I argue that Kirk is better than Dime, Mustaine, and Wylde, it's getting tough to prove my arguement when you listen to the more recent live stuff. Lars... dude, what's wrong with the left leg.... you have a double kick, fuckin' use it. I know this sounds like bashing, but it's really not. Lombardo is a tad older than Lars, and manages to use both his bass drums. I want Metallica to be ferocious again... not this "family act" for Christ's sake! Agreed Santor... IT MUST BE FUCKIN' METAL!

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 03/31/2007 01:25 PM EST

i gotta go with load on the lyrics front just for songs like
Bleeding me
outlaw torn
mama said - yes i like that song
hero
until it sleeps
ronnie

justice comes in second for me. It's probably overall my favourite metallica album.

Minus Human

Posted by Minus Human @ 03/31/2007 03:23 PM EST

I agree Load has the best lyrics, then I would say Black album.

Posted by Nick @ 03/31/2007 07:06 PM EST

First, Fixxxer may have some of the greatest lyrics written by anybody, ever.

Secondly, the new MH is very good. Listen to "Imperium" from MHs previous album, Ashes. It's one of the best metal thrashers of the decade. But if Metallica got back to writing EPIC METAL THRASHERS, they could leave MH in the dust!

I've been defending Metallica for the past 11 years (since Load), but if they shit out a stinker with this one, I might lose faith. I never thought I'd say that.

I loved the Loads because they were different and had some great songs. I loved St. Anger because it sounded raw and mean. But, it's time for some serious METAL!

Posted by Seth @ 03/31/2007 08:06 PM EST

I 2 feel as if this album flopps, I will lose all faith in them. (IF)

Posted by Nick @ 03/31/2007 09:16 PM EST

I kinda agree with you Seth. I love Metallica and have been a harcore fan for years now but this has to be something special. Their first 5 albums are epic, those are the reasons why they are still selling out stadiums and why we love them so much. The Loads were "okay". I see the Loads as good albums but medicore, nothing overly special about them, just kinda blended in with the current music scene at the time.

I said "this album will prove if they still have it or not" before St. Anger but I wrote that comment off because St. Anger became this "experiment" album and all that other personal shit in their lives, so cant use St. Anger to prove anything.

But NOW. They have spent a shit load of time writting these songs, found the best producer out there to help them out and have a kick ass new bassist. This will show if they still have the ability to write "epic" songs or not.

If it isn't epic, no big deal. just for me it'll mean that their best is behind them and keep enjoying the ride. If they pull something big out, then it'll just solidify Metallica in music history.

Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 03/31/2007 09:16 PM EST

Honestly though look at LOAD.. then look at shit in the time peroid that was out there.. or the kinda music thats out today.. and compare. Those albums are better than people give them credit for. It's just people have these very high expectations for them to live up to the first 5.

Posted by Nick @ 03/31/2007 09:24 PM EST

Good point, Nick. Load and Reload were better than any other popular rock/metal at the time, hands down. Not only was it different from Metallica's previous stuff, it was different from anything else being recorded by anybody. I hear them get lumped in with "alternative" or "grunge" but I didn't get that at all.

There have been only three times when I have heard something by someone else and thought it sounded like something from the Loads: Santana's 1978 song "Open Invitation" (the end of the song sounds extremely Load-ish), Brand New Sin's debut (although listening to it now, I don't think it sounds as much like Load as I did when I first heard it), and Avenged Sevenfold's song "Eternal Rest" from Waking The Fallen. Check it out at the 0:43 mark of the song. It's the most Load-sounding things I've ever heard that wasn't on the Loads. I know they were thinking Load when they recorded this part, there's no way around it.

Saw Killswitch Engage, DragonForce (Definitely a pro tools band, and very shitty live), and Chimaira (boring). Killswitch is entertaining and growing on me. Caught some shit for wearing a Metallica shirt by some Slayer fag, then told him if he didn't shut the fuck up I'll knock his teeth out. I really want a brutal MetallicA record. Doesn't have to be Master of Puppets, but it better not be Overload

Hi guys. Don't post here much, usually just come for the news and to see what others opinions are. However, given this news of the boys being back in the studio, I feel I must comment. I don't think them being back is a bad thing at all. In fact, I hope Rubin came in, listened and said "You can do better". I think that is why they needed some new blood. After 15 years, Bob Rock couldn't be as tough on them as they might need sometimes. He was too close. Not that I hold that against him, if he had not been there to help hold down the bass fort and be as understanding as he was during the whole rehab/SKOM/St. Anger period, who knows... Anyways the boys need someone who will push them and make them grind a little. Like Bob did when he joined them for TBA. Lars wouldn't even speak to him for 2 years after that. They need that now. Especially now.

Also wanted to comment on NoNameCreativeGuy's post "it'll just solidify Metallica in music history". Not to argue or anything but dude, they could retire tommorow and their place in music history would be just fine. Their is little they could or could not do that would affect that now. They are firmly entrenched on the Mt. Rushmore of heavy metal and rock in general.

Peace.

Posted by The Unamed Fan @ 04/01/2007 09:46 PM EST

I know that Metallica is already a historic band Unamed Fan. but for the second half of Metallica's carrier you have to realize most of it has been negative. How many younger music fans out there will always remember Metallica as "anti-napster" and by all the "sellout" talk??

Obviously I'm a die hard fan and find Metallica to be the best metal band in history. But also realize that the first half of their carrier is much different from their second half.

All I was trying to say is that Metallica coming out with another "big album" would kinda erase any of the negatives that have surrounded them the last 10 years or so through the Loads/St. Anger/Napster times is all. Thats what I meant by "solidify".

I reckon it is a positive thing. If things were going really pear shaped and Rubin was totally pissed at them (sending them back to get more practice or re-write stuff) I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have the happy snaps all over the place.

I have faith in the guys (as well as Rubin) that they will produce something pretty special. They absolutely shouldn't settle on anything and if that means more 'tweaking' than so be it.

This one will be worth the wait.

it dont matter shit what the rest of the world *myself included* thinks about them.
what matters to metallica is metallica, and not let the rest of the world try to put thier two cents in!

Couple Fights for Baby `Metallica' Name
By Associated Press

Tue Apr 3, 1:36 PM

STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Metallica may work as a name for a heavy metal band, but a Swedish couple is struggling to persuade authorities it's also suitable for a baby girl.

Sweden's tax agency rejected Michael and Karolina Tomaro's application to name their 6-month-old daughter after the legendary rock band.

"It suits her," Karolina Tomaro, 27, said Tuesday of the name. "She's decisive and she knows what she wants."

Although little Metallica has already been baptized, the Swedish National Tax Board refused to register the name, saying it was associated with both the rock group and the word "metal."

In Sweden, parents must get the names of their children approved by the tax authority, which is in charge of the population registry and issues personal identification numbers, similar to Social Security numbers in the United States.

Tomaro, who has appealed the decision, said the official handling the case also called the name "ugly."

The couple was backed by the County Administrative Court in Goteborg, which ruled on March 13 that there was no reason to block the name. It also noted that there already is a woman in Sweden with Metallica as a middle name.

The tax agency appealed to a higher court, frustrating the family's foreign travel plans.

"We've had to cancel trips and can't get anywhere because we can't get her a passport without an approved name," Tomaro said.

In the future, I'd love to see Metallica tour with Down. Could you imagine how horrible it would be to have Phil Anselmo and Lars Ulrich in the same room? ...

Posted by Metallicat @ 04/06/2007 10:50 AM EST

A leaked and recent interview found in the unreleased Guitar World for the month of June!

Recently visited the band Metallica in a secluded studio based in L.A. The band is currently laying down tracks for their 9th official studio release. I was only able to hear the muffled sound of two tracks being laid down. Due to Internet piracy and Internet streaming, Metallica is keeping a tight rope on the new material being produced. However, what I did hear sounded amazing! There were complicated riffs, with electric palm muting and some acoustic over-toned harmonized guitars. Classic Hetfield screaming and grunting, heavy drum beats and yes thumping bass filled out the rest of the sound making its way through some pretty thick walls.
Plainly, this band – bassist Robert Trujillo, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett and singer and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield – have a lot to say with this new music. One title tune, known as Moscow at this particular juncture, extrapolates from the basic metal metaphor of war abuse as enslavement ("Send them in, never to return, war-torn soldiers on beaten path they learn. Never they see or do they know. Under twisted minds they deliver, under twisted minds they’ll soon know.") to suggest that we are all being jerked around by the hand of the government. Another called "Stockholm" seems to be a direct link to the anti-Christ that is promoted by a sinister power compound. Some very powerful material!
Produced by the band with Rick Ruben, these new tracks are the real thing. Metallica has the chops, and yes, subtlety to return to their roots to create some spectacular and epic metal. If they ever award a titanium album, it could very well go to this album. Only the future will tell.

Posted by Nick @ 04/08/2007 02:58 AM EST

I had a thought, and maybe it'll make sense to you guys. That article everyone seems to think is bullshit made everyone feel a bit "relieved" right? Do we think it's bullshit because no one here thinks MetallicA can recreate the fire they had when they wrote the first 5 records? Load is definitely great... but ReLoad was at best a decent album, and St. Anger was a step in the right direction, but neither of the three aforementioned albums rank with the first 5. I don't want articles to provide my thrill because I was lead to believe St. Anger was something it's not. However, I do believe that ridding themselves of Bob Rock, and having someone (Rubin) that'll tell them (I'm looking at you Lars and Kirk) to get off their lazy asses, and throw down. I'm really curious!

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 04/08/2007 05:03 PM EST

Good point MB666!

If someone had said that they heard some of the new album and it sucked would we all be saying "Yeah, sounds about right, I knew it would suck, must be true"?

Maybe we really have lost faith!

Posted by Seth @ 04/08/2007 07:38 PM EST

It's not about that for me. To me it's someone pulling a prank and telling us what we want to hear. I will believe it when i hear it.

Posted by Nick @ 04/08/2007 10:48 PM EST

I think Metallica is still capable of writing like that, I just dont believe they will choose to write like that. Writing is a talent, and talents are hard to loose. That band that wrote mster of puppets can definetly do it again, if they wanted to. The first four albums were genious, and just about flawless. You just cant loose that power. Maybe that wasnt a line of bullshit. Maybe now Metallica wants to prove to themselves and everyone that doubted them that they can still beat the shit out of everyone.

more like i been a rambler,i been a gambler and whoa oh oh whoa oh oh...from the 2 new songs that leaked!

Posted by sean @ 04/09/2007 09:26 AM EST

I called Bullshit for two reasons, as stated above.

1. The barely audible, muffled sounds would have made it impossible to hear the lyrics that clearly.
2. Who is Metallicat Kelly? Obviously no one that posts here often. I doubt the credibility based solely on the information given.

I fully belive that theis new record will be heavy and will be fast too. But not like the first four albums only because Metallica have never put out a Master: Revisited type album. I don't think they ever want to. But similar in ferocity, yes. and hopefully something that deviates from the St Anger style.

Posted by Metallicat @ 04/09/2007 01:18 PM EST

For the record I have not lost faith in Metallica. Period. What I doubt is that this person some how came up with this information when nobody else has. Why hasn't this shown up elsewhere. Even though most of those tools at
Blabbermouth bash Metallica, they still post shit about them. I guess we will know for sure when the June issue of guitar world comes out won't we.

Here's a recent message from Lars. It doesn't say anything at all about the new album though.

A message from Lars Ulrich has been posted at the Official Metallica Site, entirely in Danish. Here is the english translation:

Hello from a beach in Mexico..happy easter. It's the Danish branch checking in (with a 'd'.. says the miss, without interfering!)... I feel extra Danish today.. Gasoline is playing on the iPod (Fi-Fi Dong!) and I would therefore share with you that we will make the Århus day a Danish day... drumroll, please.. We have asked the cool Danish bands Volbeat and Mnemic to join us the 13th of July and they both said yes! ... Cheers! It's all good so it will be totally Danish... yeah, ok, to hell with that ... 'tallica is only 1/4 Danish (the miss says it's only 1/8 and claims whining that dad is only half Danish,- haha, stupid woman...!), but let us celebrate our Danishness wherever and whenever we can, especially when we don't do that too often... So with other words, here's a summary: I'm happy to announce that Volbeat and Mnemic will do the Metallica-show as Danish as possible in Århus the 13th of July. Hei from Lars

Whoever that "Me" guy is can fuck off, questioning that were "bullshit fans" go suck a dick dumb shit. If u were smart, you would get the real reason out of why we believe that post is bullshit. It has nothing to do with faith, because I believe this album will be awesome. I don't feel I need to say more because I have already made my point above and so has others (The Unamed Fan, Metallicat, etc.).... so fuck off whoever the hell that was...

Just watched the videos of the 2 new songs over on youtube and it's hard to think they were played almost a year ago.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not worried about this mew album at all. I think they will make a great album-could be another classic. I believe since they toured last summer and played Puppets in it's entirety (inspiration from that album alone, Kerrang and other bands), it kind of lit a fire under them. Honestly, I'd hate to be in their shoes because they have created so many classic songs. They are constantly measured. Seriously, who wouldn't want to have a career like Metallica? They are the biggest heavy band of ALL time for a reason!!

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 04/10/2007 01:16 AM EST

I'm glad to have admitted that I may have lost a little faith, and it's nice to know that a couple of you guys saw where I was coming from. I'm not Metallibashing... that's for 14 year old kids who get beat up on blabbermouth. I hope to God that Metallica writes a truly great album. The first five are arguably top ten metal records of all time. It just dissapoints me a little when I hear live Metallica on youtube (recent stuff) and Lars isn't hitting double bass, and Kirk is sloppy and way too wah heavy (yes, I know it's his style) on solos (I hate Sad but True live anymore). If you thought I was bashing, go blow your mother's dog. We all share what we think, and that's what I thought

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 04/10/2007 10:21 AM EST

Oh by the way... on the fuck Kerry King note... I said it to his face at one of his "guitar classes" at guitar center in Wheatridge Colorado, so hug a nut

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 04/10/2007 10:22 AM EST

What the fuck ever! When Metallica is happening we all listen to them. When they ain't happening, we listen to other shit. We all know this. I've got other "favorite" bands too, you know? But yes, Metallica is "the all-time fave".

Hopefully I'll get my Met-fix this year and there won't be ANOTHER FUCKING ONE-YEAR DELAY... It's hard being a fan, but the material is always worth it.

Posted by Nick @ 04/10/2007 08:39 PM EST

It is childish to post using a common poster's name. Metallica is my all time favorite band, and no one is close. I've never accused them of selling out. I just hated the attitude (mostly Lars) in the mid to late 90's, and the fact they were scared to say "heavy metal". I hate that hard rock terminology. They aren't Hardrockica... To me, all of their albums are heavy metal, reload included. Not traditional, but what is anymore... I like Pantera's music, but I fuckin' hated how they rode metallica's coattails to claim the "people's champ" label. If you ever went to see pantera live you know what I mean. I'm a defender of the faith. I've kicked so much ass when it comes to metallica bashing. Kerry King took one look my direction when I told him he's a fuckin' douche bag, then instantly turned away. It had nothing to do with turning the other cheek, this happened shortly after he said Dave Mustaine is a cocksucker (the mustaine story is still in blabbermouth's archive). I hate that the son of a bitch has to sell records by name dropping metallica. Fuck him, and the rotten cunt he shot out of. To me he's the load that his dad should've shot on the wall!

JD broke out the can of whoop ass on that dumb shit, good going.

Picked up Hellyeah yesterday. Some of it pretty good, some of it pretty bland. Good to have vinny performing again though.

Also got the new Shadows Fall. If they claim they did not lighten up for the record company, sales or whatever, they are straight out lying. Excellent playing throughout, but if you did not know that was who you were listening to, you would not have guessed.

And my last post to some of you, not all...and you know who you are. You've lost faith! Deep down inside you know it!

Metallica can create any kind of music they want and it will still be great in my opinion! Besides, it's they're right as artists!

If this album doesn't sound like Master of Puppets, you select few will be moaning and bitching. You know it! You are not true fans!

Kurt, I was going to pick up hellyeah yesterday, but forgot. Pretty crazy that Chad Gray was from Peoria,IL., about an hour from where I live. I think I'll pick it up. Wouldn't mind seeing them (Mudvayne or Hellyeah) touring with Metallica.

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 04/11/2007 01:39 PM EST

This guy is a riot honestly LMAO. I could honestly care less if it sounds like Puppets or not, I just love Metallica. FUCK UM JD!

Posted by Nick @ 04/11/2007 02:23 PM EST

Hey, I must be fuckin cool now, that numbnut posted with my name(the short post, not the long one).

Yeah thingy, I like Mudvayne too, thought they were much better than a lot of the other "nu-metal" bands at the time. I went to the sanitarium that they played at. Unfortunately they went on first and after them were limp bizkit and two others(I think linkin park and deftones, but can't remember), and I didn't feel like sitting through all those shitty bands. So my brother in-law and I just stayed in the parking lot drinking until it was time for metallica to come on. I'd rather have a couple of beers and check out the chicks inthe parking lot than listen to LB, etc.

Speculating on the specifics at this point is useless, I just have faith that it will be a very solid effort and in the vein of something we've all been waiting for for a very long time. Personally all I want from Metallica is a solid record that can rank pretty high. I'm not lookin for a puppets 2. If that's what it is, so be it. But right now I am happy with it being pretty much solos, standard tunning, and no tin drums. I'm happy with that.

Let the dude post. If you guys get offended and start griping, he wins anyway. I don't think anyone is expecting puppets part two. I'm just not wanting another load. What can they do that's different anymore? Fuckin' break dance, or play a hambone and spoons? Revisit your roots and prove to the world who the heavyweight champ is. Metal is like boxing in a way, and I believe Metallica was, is, and will be the champ... So fuckin' knock every motherfucker out! Kurt... Amen brother. I watched mudvayne, and had to sit through the tonedefs (boring) limp bizquick (fred... your 15 minutes were up 6 years ago), and Stinkin Fart (best boyband this side of New kids). I wouldn't mind a Sanitarium with Machine Head, Shadows Fall, Killswitch, and of course, Metallica. Fuck diversity. If I want diversity i'll take a stroll through a mall! I want some fuckin' metal! On that note, Kerry King is the load that should've been shot on his gay dad's face!

Love,
The Motorboatin' son of a bitchin' breath!

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 04/12/2007 10:42 PM EST

You know motorbreath, I wouldn't care if diversity meant ONE band like LP, LB, etc., out of five. I understand that you gotta fill seats when you're doing a stadium tour. I was shocked when I was at Best Buy and saw a new(or at least recently new) LB disc out. They've sunk so low that they don't even make the new releases lists.
If they do another sanitarium, they'll need to take out one of the more popular bands at the time, which is OK by me. But they should also add one of the up and coming bands(LOG, SF, etc), a long time band that could use the exposure(anthrax, machine head), and then whoever else. If it's a five band show, they should be conscious of the fact that a typical metallica fan should really want to see at least two of the other bands(in addition to metallica). Anyways, there won't be another sanitarium until at least 2008.

I've been listening to COC for the last few days. Diablo Blvd. came on sirius the other day and I love James' vocals on it.

Good point Sean. And now that they're actually recording the album, any new songs we hear will give us a good idea of what to expect. They still may change slightly like Fuel for Fire from Cunning Stunts, but it will still be nice to check out the direction they're heading in.

Going into my first Metallica show 15+ years ago I had one wish - for the band to play two songs.

Those songs were Damage Inc. and Battery. They played Battery as I was leaving (I had a job interview the next morning).

29 shows later I still have not seen the band play Damage Inc. live.

Posted by IS-JD @ 04/17/2007 10:39 PM EST

yeah escape is an underated song. maybe they'll throw it in the setlist this time around

JD, where was the first show you attended?

My first show was in 1994 at starwood amphitheatre in nashville. Alice in Chains and Suicidal Tendancies were on the bill. AIC cancelled and Candlebox filled in. Pretty awesome show. what about the rest of you guys, what's some first show memories?

Posted by The General @ 04/18/2007 08:47 AM EST

guns n roses/metallica giants stadium baby. i still have the weird use your illusion black album t shirt. i wuz 12 years old and had a mullet.july 92..noone had an ipod, cell phone or slipknot t shirt

Posted by sean @ 04/18/2007 09:59 AM EST

GNR/Metallica, I think 1992, foxboro stadium. Went into it loving both bands, left it completely overwhelmed by metallica.

I doubt escape will ever be played. I think James has stated his disdain for the song.

I like the more "metal" songlists better. However, what I would really like is a loads medley. If they could do older medleys when they were playing mostly newer material, why not the opposite? The two loads, clover, human, st. anger songs even made into a medley could be really cool.

Unheard songs I would most want:
Poor twisted me
carpe diem(could see it being an acoustic version)
My world
Cure

Justice hasn't been played in it's entirety in a while either.

Posted by kurt @ 04/18/2007 10:35 AM EST

2008, AJFA.....20th anniv. Lars said you never know, they might bust out some obscure justice tracks.

yeah, i would love that to happen but james said that it wouldn't happen in the latest so what....

First show..April 3 1989 on the Damaged Justice tour. Sydney Nova Scotia's Center 200--there were under 2000 people there (the place seats 5000)I was 13 years old--I still have the ticket stub and the AJFA t-shirt I bought. After that, the Roam tour--February 10 1993 in Halifax NS--a full house! still have that stub and t-shirt (Sad but True) too!! I wish they would come back to Eastern Canada , but I doubt they will because there aren't any in-door arenas that seat over 10,000 out this way. I've had to travel to Toronto for the other 2 shows I've seen.

Kurt, I went to that Foxboro GNR/Met Show too. If I remember correctly, Hetfield did not play any guitar that night, other than the final oncore due to being burned in Montreal....everyone in the stadium went crazy when Enter Sandman kicked in and it turned out to be Hetfield (and not John Marshall) playing above the drum riser in the spotlight. It was a cool way to end the show....

My first show was Met/Ozzy in
'86 at the Worcester Centrum. I had floor seats, 8 rows back, right in front of cliff.

My first Metallica show was the opening show of the GNR/Metallica tour in 1992 at RFK Stadium. Still one of the funnest nights of my life. I went into the show more of a GNR fan, but like Kurt, I left overwhelmed by Metallica.

Since then, I've seen them in '94 and '98 at Merriweather Post (outside Baltimore), in '97 at the old USAir Arena outside DC, the first SS tour in 2000 at then-named PSINet Stadium on the 4th of July in Baltimore, the second SS tour at FedEx Field, outside DC and in October 2004 at Verizon Center.

One of these days, I'll have to take a road trip to see them.

I wonder if we'll see another SS or stadium type tour next summer? To be honest, I don't even know what other hard rock/metal bands are out there to make sure a tour like that is a success like 2000 (ticket sale wise, an area in which 2003 struggled somewhat).

Ive seen them 7 times live and was able to meet the band twice in the same month while they were touring Ontario in 2004 :)

Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 04/19/2007 02:26 PM EST

Crushing metal, you are correct. My seats were so horrible that I never even saw John Marshall. But the place erupted like hell when hetfield started playing. My lasting memories of that show are that whole fuckin stadium vibrating during sad but true and am I evil. Other than that my other lasting memory is waiting a looooooong fuckin time for GNR to hit the stage and the camera guys showing the titties of a lot of the girls in the crowd. I was there with my girlfriend, pretending not to like the titty show, and protecting her from getting hit with cups and shit that people started throwing when they were getting pissed for waiting so long.

My other met shows are both sanitarium's at Gilette stadium and october 04 at the fleetcenter. I had tickets to see them in Iowa(actually moline, illinois), but some kind of emergency came up and I had to bail.

Posted by kurt @ 04/19/2007 03:34 PM EST

I only got to see them once :( !!!! August 25th 200uuummmm4 i think lol or 5... at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, WI. James lost his voice, but the show was still awesome.

the two new songs are so damn different i wouldnt even have them on the same mix cd.

Posted by sean @ 04/19/2007 10:59 PM EST

That's what I've been saying. I highly doubt they will anyways.

anyone ever seen this guitar before? first time for me, pretty slick

Posted by The General @ 04/24/2007 03:17 PM EST

That pic is fake General. I've seen the before and after one before. That's the Explorer he uses in the St. Anger video. Someone photoshopped it.

Posted by Nick @ 04/24/2007 05:43 PM EST

Actually, while parts of that image look odd... that IS a real guitar.

http://www.montyjay.com/blackgibsonexpstripe.html

Posted by IS-JD @ 04/24/2007 11:56 PM EST

Well lol... can't argue with that JD. Can't remember where I saw the 2 same pictures, but one with the M on the guitar. Interesting guitar... don't really care for it much though.

Posted by Nick @ 04/25/2007 12:01 AM EST

Kind of on the subject of the explorer, but I swear the explorer was created just for James. I know that in reality it wasnt, but I never saw anyone else look as right as James looks playing the explorer, to me, it fits papa het more then anyone else I have ever seen play it.

Posted by Robert @ 04/25/2007 03:57 AM EST

I wish he used the silver diamond plate one more. That guitar is the shit.

Posted by Nick @ 04/25/2007 05:18 AM EST

the pick guard on the st. anger video guitar has the swirls in it, and that one did not. It did at first, look like a photo shop deal, but JD put that to rest.

yeah, nobody looks good playing an explorer, 'cept for Hetfield. Dave Grohl looks decent, but JH put the explorer on the map.

Posted by The General @ 04/25/2007 08:56 AM EST

actually the guy from cheap trick looks cool playing his explorer...hehe

Posted by xino @ 04/25/2007 09:32 AM EST

I think the guys must have caught wind of all the speculation when they returned to HQ for a week. Cause since then there hasn't been a whisper of an update. Put up a couple of new pics or something. I'm not in a rush for the record, but give us something.

The first song on Hellyeah(called Hellyeah), the guitar riff in the beginning reminds me of My World. Has anyone else heard it?

um... news please! :)

Anyone know the status of Ruben's other albums? ANything getting done?

Posted by Bond @ 05/01/2007 04:53 PM EST

ya know i think bands put more pressure on themselves the longer they wait between albums. it sux cuz everyone is hoping for a amazing album partly becuz we all know it will be another 6 years before another chance. its kinda bullshit that the creative process is stagnant for any band with long waits between records. i mean if you're messing around as a music group everyday for 4,5,6 years jamming and you dont have several songs completely done? i bust my ass everyday in a warehouse with no vacation and guitar is my relaxation and u play around for a living and need vacations? ..get this damn album done.

Posted by sean @ 05/01/2007 11:27 PM EST

There was a 6-year period between ReLoad and St. Anger. After it was released, Lars said he'd like to get the next album out sooner than six years, kind of as a joke. well.... if they get it out spring of next year, which I'm thinking. It will have been five years between releases. ... Hmmm. Sucks waiting five years or so for new material forom your favorite bands. *ahem Tool. cough-cough.

Hetfield honors the Red Rocker:

Posted by EET FUK @ 05/03/2007 10:07 PM EST

Been listening to the new megadeth(yes I will buy the real one when it comes out, I support who I like), and it is really friggin good. Probably the best since countdown, certainly the most thrash in style since Rust in Peace. Very good example of playing to your roots without sounding dated. I hope another group I know does the same.

Picked up the new Rush and Sabbath GH w/Dio. Both are pretty good. The Rush record is much more guitar oriented than some of their recent records.

Posted by kurt @ 05/04/2007 04:49 PM EST

new rush sounds definitely interesting....have you guys checked Dream theaters new song?? its called constant motion, the main riff sounds alot like metallica, even the way labrie sings the verses....anyway its really heavy and good...

Posted by xino @ 05/04/2007 06:39 PM EST

I agree with you Sean. Yeah, they have families no and eveything, but come on!! It's been 4 years now.......nothing since St. Anger excet for SKOM dvd. At least we got S&M & Garage Inc. between ReLoad & ST. Anger!! I just hope this album will be worth the wait. As a diehard fan...I'm sure it will be for my own greedy pleasure. But a fuckin update would benice to keep us a bit satisfied!!! Anyways, been listening to a lot Zakk Wylde/Black Label lately....he's a fuckin genius!!! Anbody hear Ozzy'snew song? I like the music but the lyrics are a little "stock"....quoting Lars..

Posted by MONSTER @ 05/04/2007 10:04 PM EST

cool.. yeah i need to check out all the new music mentioned above

Posted by sean @ 05/04/2007 10:46 PM EST

been 11 years since Load was released... God Bless Metallica, I am not complaining in any way about lack of album releases since Load, but man does the time fly by.

11 years!!

So my advice to all you rockers out there still trying to break into the scene, or anyone with a dream or a plan, Double up the speed, don't let it rest.

CARPE DIEM BABY!!!!

Posted by Tony @ 05/05/2007 10:36 AM EST

Speaking of Reload, I just listened to that CD yesterday and I'm listening to it right now. It's not bad as a lot of people think. Sure, it may not be as "timeless" as RTL, MOP and so on, but there's some heavy stuff on there; it's a different animal. Slither, Carpe Diem Baby, Bad Seed, Where the Wild Things Are are pretty good songs. I prefer
Slither over Better Than You. However, I really do like the "lock horns, I push and I drrrive" on Better Than You. Those songs just have a nice groove to them. I'd love to hear Where the Wild Things Are Fixxxer and Carpe Diem Baby live, but I doubt it'll ever happen. Who knows, though, they like to surprise us.

Toy soldiers off to war....

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 05/05/2007 10:59 AM EST

Yeah man, Carpe Diem Baby, what else could you ask for in a song. Wash your face away with dirt! and Fixxxer, Just when all seems fine and I'm pain free, you jab another pin, jab another pin in me!!!!

Great album, even Prince Charming which I ranked worst Metallica song at one point, even that song rules. I mean look at the world, everyone fucked up. Hey, look it's me!!

Metallica is gruesome. Everyone else can't achieve that type of power, so they speed up, or get technical, or scream their lungs out, but it always comes up short when you hear Hetfield lash out. Not to mention Kirk's wickedness, and Lars banging on what sounds like cylinders 10 times his size.

New Metallica is going to be tremendous, especially for someone like me who is striving for the light. Striving for something better than getting high and drunk and going to hell.

I think Metallica is the biggest example in music of going from darkness into the light.

The St.anger movie was an honest attempt at reaching and mending, and with their new song where he exclaims "I've been rambler, the light sets me free", I think these guys seriously represent life and God, and the elevation to the Good side.

Since when does Hetfield openly say the light sets him free...

I think it's awesome.

GOD BLESS METALLICA!!!

Maybe Metallica is getting into the Guns N' Roses stages in anouncing the date of a new album. Maybe it't take another year, or another. This really sucks of having to wait 5-7years for an album.

I'll take the RTL jersey and wear it to work. Size M.

Posted by The General @ 05/08/2007 09:04 AM EST

Oh man, I hate guiness. The only fairly dark beer I like is Sam Adams light. But pretty much if I'm getting some liquor it's gonna be a Red Bull and Vodka.

Ya Monster, I heard the new Ozzy song. Unfortunately I think it's horrible. I have a good feeling that the rest of the record will be better though. Ozzy definitely puts at least a song or two on the disc for the record company to release as a single, so I'm hoping that's the reason for that song.

I don't care if the boys are quiet(although I would enjoy an update), so long as they get the record out when they said(late07/early08).

Posted by kurt @ 05/08/2007 02:17 PM EST

Since beer was mentioned on here, I prefer Miller Lite. If I want to spend a little extra money and have something a little heavier, I'll order some Konig Ludwig, Amber Bock or Killians Red. Every once in a while maybe a Blue Moon w/o an orange in it. I don't drink hard liquor.

One month w/o an update. Actually, a little more because Lars basically just said Happy Easter. Although, he'd probably just say there's nothing new to report-they're just working on recording. No new Lars Babbles for Metclub members?

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 05/08/2007 10:13 PM EST

UPDATE:

Metallica is working on their new album which will be out soon enough, and it will be packed with some cool new shit that will reach a new plateau like they normally do. Lars is banging on the drums harder than St.Anger. James is screaming, growling and yelling from the depths of his aged body, so expect a little more despair, yet more hope than ever. And Kirk is getting acquainted with soloing all over again, adding flares left and right. Rob is thumping and bringing in even more thickness than Sad But True.

Yes, that's right, Metallica is putting out another album to add to their collection of masterpieces, and the update is Lars just had diarrhea because of a burrito he just ate, and James thought about getting wasted, but passed on the idea because he had to drive to pick up his daughter, and Kirk is floating in the air like David Blaine, and Rob is on the phone reconnecting to old friends.

Oh, now they are all in the jam room, and they are jamming the heaviest riff any band can come up with. Now they are in the control room listening to it get thicker and thicker. Now it sounds like the best band in the world. Oh wait, it is.

The walls can talk.

Carling Black Label

Good beer.

Posted by Yukon Eric @ 05/09/2007 01:07 AM EST

Just listen to Beer.com, although their beer reviews are crap.
They trashed Tiger Gold medal, which is a great beer.

I like caffreys, smithwicks, moosehead, keiths, stella, heineken, castle, boris, many others.
gin and tonics, rye and cokes, and scotch (bowmore darkest is awesome)

Posted by manguy @ 05/09/2007 09:13 AM EST

I think my favorite beer is Newcastle. I like Blue Moon with an orange. Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is awesome. For a cheaper beer, I don't know, Budweiser. Labatt. I like scotch, whiskey, tequilla, not so much vodka but will drink it.

Oh yeah, this is a metboard. I hope the new album rules!

Posted by BLVE ÖYSTER CVLT @ 05/09/2007 04:09 PM EST

UPDATE:

Metallica still rules. So that would make it 23 years since their induction?

I bet that's older than some of you! Hey, I'm no grandpa. That's a lot of years.

See, it's easy to see updates. Spread out all your Metallica shit, your cds, your memories, the vibrating of sound in your ear, and I'm sure you can come up with some update that will be just as good as what someone else will give you.

It feels like this is a sighting, and I'm walking among the dead.

What's up Lars?

Posted by Tony @ 05/10/2007 12:57 AM EST

Budweiser for cheap. Heineken, Fosters, Becks, I guess it all depends on the mood. I've recently discovered vodka and Red Bull though, and I've been ordering it probably a little too often lol.

Posted by BoNeZ @ 05/10/2007 09:30 AM EST

budweiser tastes horrible....and i cant really get into vodka and red bull, now i've been a vodka freak for the last 4 or 5 months, my personal favourites are grey goose and belvedere with some orange juice and just a lil' bit of cranberry juice or of course, on the rocks....anyway FUCK KERRY KING!!!!

Yikes! I wonder if Lars and James talked to Slash and Duff about Rubin before they signed him up?:

Launch Radio Networks reports: VELVET REVOLVER's new album, called "Libertad", comes out on July 3, but for a while it looked like it might not come out at all. Bassist Duff McKagan told Launch that even though the band started working with producer Rick Rubin and writing songs, he was worried that Rubin and the group weren't pulling together. "I wasn't nervous, it was just kinda happening, you know," he said. "It was quietly falling apart. I don't know what my emotion was about it, so I can say it now because we all kind of talk about it. It was just a drag, 'cause we just didn't have a goal. We didn't have a date booked for the recording studio, we didn't know when we'd have a record out, we didn't know what we were writing so many songs for."

The band ultimately parted ways with Rubin and hired PEARL JAM producer Brendan O'Brien, who got the band back on track

Rubin's also taking a beating over the new LP album Minutes to Midnight. Eeesh! Listened to it....loved the first two albums....dis one blows ass chunks!

Posted by Cracker Jack @ 05/16/2007 11:28 PM EST

WEll, you can only make LP sound so good.

Danzig has some bad things to say about Rubin too, but then you've got guys like RHCP, Johnny Cash, Slayer and lots of other dudes who have heaps of good things to say about him. I don't think Rubin will be a problem..

Posted by Caspian @ 05/17/2007 02:59 AM EST

well thats why the boysare taking their time maybe a little too much cuz noone is cracking the whip.

Posted by sean @ 05/17/2007 09:03 AM EST

When they had a producer that let them do their own thing, you got the first four records. I don't think this will be a problem for them at all.

The problem with VR is that it is assembled talent that needs to be pushed in a coherent direction. If you read enough about them, and read between the lines a little, it doesn't seem like they like each other very much. I think they are together because Weiland's and Slash's solo stuff didn't do shit, and the record companies love the "supergroup" thing. I'll still get the record though.

Posted by kurt @ 05/17/2007 03:29 PM EST

I am def. getting the VR record. Idc what anyone says. I like them and to be honest they are better then most shit out there right now. Linkin Park writes Linkin Parks music by the way... NOT RUBIN. People HONESTLY need to get a clue. Producers produce, bands write! Just cause someone doesn't like the CD doesn't mean Rubin failed. That's ridiculous. Not to defend Linkin Park, but just cause it isn't "new metal" sounding doesn't mean it isn't any good. You want them to put out the same record over and over? They would have died.

Here we go... (oh boy)... I liked Minutes to Midnight.

Now understand that I loathe Linkin Park and their first two excuses for music albums. But, I think the new CD is much more mature, and while it is softer, I believe it's what they need. Can anyone really believe that Linkin Park would get heavier, or evolve into some kind of metalcore group? There are a few solos on their new record and a few hard rocking songs, but its very mellow overall.

I think it's a step in the right direction. I still hate the group, but their new record has caught my attention. Skip the single, though.

Posted by anonymouse @ 05/18/2007 12:46 PM EST

I can't stand the likes of Linkin Park. Sure they should alter their sound to stay relevant, but I still think they are a second rate pop band. I also can't stand the fact that the singer says he hates "nu-metal", when his band got it's break being the poster child of that type of music. You can say it's time to grow and mature without slamming the scene that made them.

United Abominations hasn't left my car since tuesday and I added 1/2 the songs to my ipod. Gotta say Dave hit a home run with this one.

Listened to the streaming of Black Rain. It definitely has a Rob Zombie vibe musically(not lyrically), which suprises me with Zakk supposedly writing the music for this one. Some of the songs are OK, but I hope once I get it that it grows on me, cause I'm not terribly impressed by the first listen.

yeah i need to get the new megadeth cd. i liked linkin park in 2001 then they waited 17 years to release a new cd and who really cared. wut is this there 3rd cd? lol come on

Just trying to catch up. Not much in the way of news, will try to post a summary of Misc.allica tomorrow.

Beer? Ick. Not my thing... now vodka on the other hand. Absolut.

The new Linkin Park? I think it might be the album of the year. They've managed to break through the little niche they've created for themselves and make a very mature album. This could be the record that propels them into U2 of Radiohaead territory.

New Megadeth is OK in small doses. It sounds very dated to me, I do get enjoy Sleepwalker. Dave almost seems like he's trying too hard. But, the new version of Tout Le Monde is amazing.

Posted by IS-JD @ 05/20/2007 02:46 AM EST

yeah JD. Amaze-ingly awful. He never should have released his "true vision" of that song because the fans are so used to the first recording. Besides, it sounded better on Youthanasia, and even then it was over-rated.

Posted by anonymouse @ 05/20/2007 03:01 AM EST

Mouse - you're entitled to your opinion, but I think this version of 'Tout' is better than the original. I was never a big fan of the original, but am of this new one.

Posted by IS-JD @ 05/20/2007 09:44 AM EST

Go Sens Go! Sorry JD!

Posted by manguy @ 05/20/2007 12:07 PM EST

i just watched anthrax video for "I'm the man" 1987 ..holy shit james dean couldnt make that cool today.

Posted by sean @ 05/20/2007 10:40 PM EST

Popped in Cunning Stunts over the weekend and watched some of it. You could tell James was really into it, especially during Bells. He was over there smashing Lars' cymbals.

In non-Metallica news, I just caught a headline on Yahoo that Scott Stapp was just arrested for domestic battery. That dude has had his share of problems lately.

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 05/21/2007 12:39 PM EST

Well, I was never big on the original 'a toute le mond', and I thought the idea of remaking your own song was rediculous(I have always and still hate the idea of Unforgiven II). That being said, I like the new version. I'm almost embarrased to admit it.

JD, I don't find it sounding dated at all. I thought he did an excellent job of making a modern version of the style of music from their heyday. And trust me, I'm not a Megadeth suck-up, cause I think Dave whines like a baby and he's put out some very shaky stuff over the last decade(with a few bright spots here and there).

As much as I didn't originally like it, Ozzy's single is growing on me. Kinda like a pop song that you don't want to like, but you hear it enough and it gets stuck in your head.

Posted by kurt @ 05/21/2007 02:34 PM EST

Kurt, I agree with you about the Ozzy song. The last week I've been singing it in my head while I'm driving or at work. It is a little "pop" but a good song with some good riffs there. I'm gonna pick up the cd tomorrow @ bestbuy. Curious to see what Zakk does for Ozzy as opposed to Black Label. I saw Godsmack at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC for my wife's b-day. I love Godsmack and I saw them open for Metallica, but I have to say they put on a fucking great show!!! All the songs the played were my favorites and kicked major ass!!! Seeing them real close makes me like them even more. Sully is fuckin awesome. I know there's some on here that don't care for Godsmack but I have to say that they are great live and do represent metal and hard very well. Watching Sully playing the guitar and singing, just showed me how much he is influenced by James. Pretty cool to see.

Posted by MONSTER @ 05/21/2007 09:16 PM EST

The original A Tout La monde isn't dated... The new one is terrible... when it gets heavy it doesn't have the same impact musically or lyrically. I'm not knocking Megadeth (mustaine) for revamping an underrated song, but scabbia does nothing... she has no range, and while I like a little lacuna coil, chicks in metal just don't cut it (my opinion) unless they're half naked. Linkin Pork album of the year? I guess, as long as we make sure that the backstreet boys and saliva are great too. Mature? Yeah, i'm sure they have the "maturest" 7th grade audience of any boy band.

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 05/22/2007 11:22 AM EST

I love Godsmack. Their one of the bands I always buy the CD of.

How about METALLICA for album of the year?

Yeah they wine and bitch about everything. Sometimes I wonder if they like any music...

Posted by Nick @ 05/24/2007 02:53 AM EST

I think we won´t hear anything from them until they go on tour in the next few weeks.

Posted by santor @ 05/24/2007 03:17 AM EST

I'm not really digging Ozzy's new disc either. Maybe like 3 songs on it. Disappointed since I heard Zakk was writing the music but I think Ozzy had a big influence on the writing too. His Black Label stuff is 100% better than what's on that album. By the way, picked up the new Megadeth after hearing what you guys said and it does kick ass. Listen to it all the time I'm driving.

Posted by MONSTER @ 05/24/2007 11:30 AM EST

cant really stand daves voice, the only reason i ever gave megadeth a chance was cause of marty friedman, but now that they're megadave i honestly dont care

Posted by xino @ 05/24/2007 12:36 PM EST

well, as a guitar player i gotta say that i find daves riffs brilliant, im not trying to ditch him as a musician, i just cant stand him...its weird

Posted by xino @ 05/24/2007 12:38 PM EST

I like his riffs. I don't own a disc of them soley on this voice. It's TERRIBLE.

Posted by Nick @ 05/24/2007 01:28 PM EST

I like reading those comments on Blabbermouth about Metallica. It's almost like you have to dig deep to find the most creative insult. What alot of you guys don't understand is Metallica is just that band that's going to be really revered or really hated... no middle ground. That's what happens when you're king of the hill. On a different note, I pray every day that they're not recording "Overload". Please be full on metal, I don't want to listen to the new album just once!

Posted by MOTORBREATH666 @ 05/24/2007 01:30 PM EST

Apparently Lars is a third time father, just recently.
Congrats to him, but only one more thing to slow down the recording process lol

Posted by manguy @ 05/25/2007 11:30 AM EST

I'm starting to get a real worry that Metallica are spending much less time recording this album then we really thing. Just the random updates we get time to time like Lars just having a new kid and stuff... just keep getting this damn feeling we won't get an album until next year :S

The only news tidbits regarding the band have had nothing to do with the record. The guys being spotted here and there, Lars' child. They have a right to all this stuff, but it pretty much seals the deal that we ain't seeing a record before 2008.

metallica do not have to release a new record ever and thats our problem not theirs and that is what sucks. lol

Posted by sean @ 05/25/2007 11:24 PM EST

Finally a good update! This was with Lars on a radio show, you can read the whole thing at Blabbermouth...

On the status of the new album recordings:

"We were down in L.A. for the last four-five weeks just doing all the backing tracks to the new album with [producer] Rick Rubin. We just finished about a week ago doing all the backing tracks and then I came back up here to San Francisco and I had a baby on Monday [May 21] — I didn't have a baby, but my better half had a baby — so this is my first night back in the house here, so I've got a three-day-old baby in the bedroom in there with the lady. So we took a little bit of a break for that and then we're gonna start rehearsing in a couple of weeks and we're gonna go over to Europe and do three weeks' worth of shows and do some of the festivals and all that outdoor fun and games and then back to L.A. in August and finish up the record."

Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 05/27/2007 12:16 AM EST

Why isn't this kind of stuff on the main page?? Does this site get updated anymore?

Posted by booglypoo @ 05/27/2007 02:21 AM EST

So what exactly is the definition of a "backing track"?

Posted by Ice Nine @ 05/27/2007 09:21 AM EST

Video of metallica talking about Black Sabbeth for BBC's 7 ages of Rock shown on BBC 2 Saturday nights 9pm in UK, the Metallica part is shown in a few weeks.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/sevenages/artists/metallica/

Posted by andrew @ 05/27/2007 10:19 AM EST

back track means they have drums, mostly all guitar and propably the bass parts recorded...they just gotta finish the lead work, finish the vocals and some arrangements

Posted by xino @ 05/27/2007 11:56 AM EST

So maybe we will get the new album before the end of the year? Another month or so finishing the recording and then another month or so mixing....hopefully it wil be out around Thanksgiving.....I know I'm dreaming, but you never know.

Posted by MONSTER @ 05/27/2007 12:18 PM EST

well shit thats good news

Posted by sean @ 05/27/2007 11:18 PM EST

maybe they'll do their traditional November release, hopefully. Haven't the last 3 albums come out in Nov.?

No, just reload. June is more of a traditional release time, if anything. Unless you are counting Garage Inc and S&M.

Posted by manguy @ 05/29/2007 09:59 AM EST

St Anger was released on June 5th-moved forward because it was leaked.

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 05/29/2007 10:55 AM EST

well Load and Reload and Garage Ink all come out in nov. Could have sworn I picked up another album during that month. Im too lazy to google the exact date of the others.

so what metallica trax are you boys listening to these days?

Posted by The General @ 05/29/2007 11:25 AM EST

has anybody heard this one. a coverversion of the new song. interesting:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pS5rODQ2ao&mode=related&search=

but acctually I think the vocals will be different in the metallica-album-version. when they played it live james said that he hasn´t written the vocal-lines yet. so I think he just sang to the guitar. therefore the verses sound very rock rollish in the way james sang them. but on the record it will sound different. Im really sure.

Posted by santor @ 05/29/2007 11:26 AM EST

That's IF the song is on the CD.

Posted by Nick @ 05/29/2007 02:47 PM EST

Posted by Blaster of Muppets @ 05/29/2007 08:57 PM EST

I bet the two new songs wont be on the album, just bc of how protective met are. They dont like to show much of their new stuff before the album comes out, it seems like. I did enjoy those 2 songs though..i though they were good

Posted by And Anger For All @ 05/29/2007 10:53 PM EST

I'd bet if either song makes it, it would be new song #2.

After several listens, I'd say I really like 4-5 songs on the new ozzy record. I haven't given the ballads the time of day yet to even decide if they are any good.

Posted by The Thing that should not be @ 05/30/2007 06:36 PM EST

Sounds a lot like they are going back to their roots. Roots as in the first 4 or 5 albums. I just hope they can still make it sound new and not recycled like Slayer or AC/DC.

Oh man this is gonna be a long wait!!!!!

Posted by NoCreativeNameGuy @ 05/30/2007 06:51 PM EST

Is it just me or does Kirk always say "this is the best we've done since..." Now having said that I know he won't come out and say "this album is going to suck don't buy it" but Kirk just seems to say all the same old shit.

Posted by The Unamed Fan @ 05/30/2007 08:44 PM EST

Well, saw them on 28th of June on Lisbon. Sounded good, despite kirk's mistakes. They played old shit like rtl or disposable and ajfa. Rob said that the 2 new songs weren't going to be on the new album 'cause they took some parts into other new songs but they played in Spain (on day after lisbon) The Other New Song =/ Maybe they couln't come up with something better thant that =/ Hope they do. They seem to finally listen to the fans 'cause when st anger was out everyone complained about the drums and no solos and now they all say that this one as solos and the snare drum is on. Well hope they really listen to us and make a masterpiece. \m/
